I am a 2nd soprano and sometimes an alto. However I have just been cast in a play where I have to sing first soprano. I am having dificulties reaching the high notes. How can I train my voice to go higher w/o squeeking?

Relax your cords and put a lot of air through. Push with your diaphragm and use more air for the higher notes. And don't think that you can't do it!!!! A year ago I was singing tenor, and by the end of school this year I was on the descant soprano part(usually as high as parts get).
You're a girl, your cords were designed to go that high. Practice in scales, arpeggios, and other warm-ups at first, and then work into songs. Also, don't be afraid to sing the high notes loud. That's the only way to get good tone up in your high register.

You can do it! Good luck!!!

A choir teacher of mine suggested this: sit/stand up straight and don't lean your head back. If anything, put it slightly forward and relax your throat-if it closes too much you'll choke. And good luck. I'm an alto (but sometimes sing soprano in a smaller choir).

Don't force it. Do your vocal exercises daily with the notes you are comfortable with and every day try to inch your way up to that next note and when you are very comfortable with that then work on the next one. If you force it you could injur your voice and that is definitely not a good thing. If it's an option, ask them to transpose the music to your range :-)

Good luck!
