The first step in my opinion is to come to terms about accepting government aid. I did and a few years later I became very successful. It is better to accept the aid for a short period of time when the problems are less severe than to create very severe problems like homelessness in the future. He can think of aid like a credit card and he can repay it at a later date if it really bothers him. I rented out parts of my home to cover the monthly payments, so perhaps he could team up with another family in the same situation. It will be tight, but at least no one will be out on the streets. His weight problem may be contributing to his poor health. Perhaps his weight problem is due to eating a poor diet of cheap carbohydrates. Food stamps will hopefully help him buy more nutritious food. This is an example where a few thousand dollars in government food money could improve his health and keep him around for his kids. The government would be doling out a lot more if he had a heart attack that resulted in death or hospitalization. There are many anti-depressants that are available in cheap generic form. They can reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Sounds like this fellow could get a full-time job that doesn't require reading.

If your body is up to it I would say its okay, but you need to research the risk of having a child at that age:
A baby with downs syndrome is a large risk factor. Your risks for any birth defect, or genetic defect you may carry a marker for goes up as you and your eggs age. You can find out your chances/risks before you get pregnant by having genetic testing done on yourself and your partner. Good prenatal care including amniocentesis, CVF testing and ultrasound will tell you of any problems early on during your pregnancy. You may also want to go to an OB/GYN who specializes in high-risk pregnancies (women over 35 are often classified in this manner). But dont worry good nutrition, good genes, testing and good prenatal care lessens your chances for any problems that may arise no matter what your age. My mother had her second child at 42 with very little problems, and my little sister is fine

Many people have children a bit later in life. It is a concern by doctors though as, as we get older our DNA degrades and has more defects in it raising the chances for abnormalities and risk of death or excessive bleeding during labor. One of my aunts had a set of twins (15th and 16th children to her) at age 59. In a way it is better as the usual assumption that when we are older, we have our lives set and careers established. On the other hand, it is sort of unfair to the child as they won't have as much time to spend with you as they would have if you had had them younger. Retirement is also a problem as you will be spending those years trying to get the child through college.

Conceiving at 40 greatly increases your chances that your baby will have birth defects. Other than that, consider that you will be 58 when your child is 18. How much of your life do you want to spend rearing children? Are there other things you might like to do?

Hello,
I work in OB/GYN and we have patient that are much older than 39-40 years old pregnant. Your doctor may recommend more test, But go for it!!! You can certainly have a healthy baby and maybe even twins..
Good luck

Yes! Most of my older mom colleagues through teaching are having children well into their early 40s...we had our first when I was 23...and that for me I believe was too young yet...older moms carry a different perspective and I have seen they are more laid back....you may be considered "high risk", but they'll just take more special care of you and send you for more tests. Good luck!!!

my mother had her last child at 43 years old and he`s doing very well so i think you`d be ok but your doctor would know best.

yes it's okay but it'll be harder to get pregnant and you might end up being a higher risk during pregnancy b/c of your age. good luck w/ everything though.
