I have my 9 yr old daughter's list for back to school items in my pocketbook at all times now so when i go to the store and i think about it, i will get some items and cross them off as i go and get more the next time so i do not feel overwhelmed and i agree with you...i hate that the back to school items are in stores early, i use to hate that when i was a kid and i always reassure my daughter they do that so the parents do not feel overwhelmed and not cause school is around the cornor. As for back to school outfits, i buy new shoes before she goes back to school which will be a new pair of helley sneickers and some new sandals since we are in florida and i will buy an outfit or two just so she will have some new clothes for school but i buy them all summer long so that's why i do only about 2 outfits so my daughter will feel these are her clothes for back to school...like a present...lol....and when it gets cooler here, that is when i need to buy more outfits.

Our district had not been putting out supply lists til the beginning of August for my son (in middle school), so not til then for him. But my daughter is going to her first "real" year of school, and they sent those supply lists home in May. I have been keeping an eye out for sales, and now Staples (office supply store) is starting their penny supplies. Last week it was pencils and pocket folders, so I got those. They put two or three things on sale for a penny each, each week between now and the start of school.
Clothes, my ex-in-laws buy my son new clothes on a regular basis, so his wardrobe is never an issue. My daughter got a new boxful of clothes from eBay last year. One new dress, and a couple of other new pieces to match the gently used stuff. I'll try to do the same this year too, because so many little girls have similar taste in style.
I love shopping when there are no major crowds, so those things like the tax-free weekends are a no-go for me!

I usually buy my school supplies like a week and a half before school starts. For buying school clothing a lot of stores have sales and so I buy my school clothing during those time of the sales. Lucky haha, school starts for me Aug. 18

I usually wait on school clothes until about 10 days to two weeks before school starts. However, the past few years in Florida, the last week of July (or first week of August ~ can't remember) they suspend sales tax on clothing and school supplies to make it easier for families.
As for school supplies, we have to wait until the first day of school as each teacher has different supply requirements ~ and no two are the same.
I usually buy a whole new wardrobe for my kids. But this year I'm changing that. They still have stuff in their closests that they haven't worn from last year.

Well October is alittle to late here in Michigan we start in August and we buy uniforms. The uniforms are kahkis pants and a white shirt or a blue, navy blue shirt with a pair of black or blue shoes. School suppy is a must stock up on items you have to start very soon on that. Wal-Mart is the best and Office Depot is good to on somethings exsecially if you high school kids. So honestly you should start picking up little things their going to need now.

My mom bought school supplies for us 2 weeks before school started in August all the time. She'd buy us two outfits and a new backpack if we needed it and bought the rest of the school supplies.

School supplies is mainly on sale right now, so I would get those. About clothing though, I would wait until around school starts only because in summer kids gain and loss weight constantly..so you may buy soemthing now and next month it might not even fit them.

I buy what they need
Some times, the pants are too short, after a summer wearing shorts and Capri's, so long pant are need
Sometimes nothing
Last night I was in a store, they had jeans mark down to $5.99 with extra 30% off. None in my child size, but I found to pair in my neighbor daughter size. I pick then up. My neighbor wanted to yell out me, but never saw a pair of jeans that cheap. One was a forty dollar pair.
I do look at clearance now, the spring clotes they are giving away
I never find stuff the size I need

my mom or aunt usually take me shopping at the end of july and august. My school year starts in september, and my mom buys me pretty much a whole new wardrobe. i am 14 though, so younger kids might not want or need anymore clothes, but i like them so she buys them for me. by the way my family isn't rich, but we are like middle class? upper middle class? i dont know...
ok well i hope this information helped you out!
