From the day my daughter was born I made each day a learning experience. Everything I touched I told her what it was. We named all of her toys and she could pick them out for you before she could talk. The key word to learning is to read to your child constantly. When you see something ask him what color it is. Get flash cards with ABC's on them and teach him one or two a week. Every week add one or two and keep adding on. It wouldn't hurt at the same time to tell him the sound the letter makes. Also talk about shapes. Yes I have experience with children. I just finished my 22ND year in the school system.

I read everyday to my daughter at that age and used a super animated voice, that I would never let anyone else hear, while I read to her to keep her attention. The other thing you can do is start talking. If your folding clothes show and tell him a red sock, sock starts with S and make the SSSSSS sound draw out, he'll get a kick out of it and he'll pay attention.

Since they are born, even before that you should try to teach them by disciplining them. Sing to him and read to him before he goes to sleep. Create a routine, when you read to him, point at the objects, the color etc

I use to take salt or flour and put it in a big cookie tray and trace letters in it and numbers with my babes...I'd make games of "I spy" for colours and shapes, and count everything! have fun what a great and wonderful age!!
