Atheists make it sound like they get preached at everywhere. The movie theater. The public park. The waterfront. The baseball stadium. The classroom. I don't know exactly where you live, but that just seems impossible. In my entire life I've only seen 2 people publicly sharing their Christian faith, 1 person spreading Islam, and 3 of my teachers (two from high school one from college) spreading Atheism. Aside from that, religion has been contained to the church. I don't freak out and pretend I am being oppressed when I see a Muslim or an Atheist or a Jehovah's Witness. Don't many Atheists appear Christophobic? Religiophobic? Differences in religious opinion do not bother me, why do Atheists get so worked up about it? Relax. Religion is just a part of society.

I don't know. But the teachings of non-believers is crammed down our throats on an hourly basis. In school, at work, on television. They teach it to our children. You'd be shocked to know what kind of garbage your children are being subjected to, and bombarded with. It's become a requirement in the school systems. Sexual tolerance, evolution, humanism, secularism. They inadvertently attack "holidays" that aren't even Christian and Army Chaplains to get at us. Sick! And they call US the "fundies".

God bless

Cool question. I've seen 2-3 people approaching others asking about their faith in the parking lot at malls maybe two times in my life, and I am 50.

(You forgot to mention public restrooms, restaurants, gas stations, the mall, etc. You would think it was an epidemic.)

I have taught for 26 years in Southeast GA, and Christianity is NOT taught in schools. That is against the law. Yet you would think that we brainwash children, according to some people.

As for online "preaching," turn off the computer. You can choose not to read it, you know.

If just a few people do it, why, then, are we all accused? Why are we all attacked because of what a few do? That's not really fair.

But on line I do see people pushing their beliefs on others a lot.

When you buy a new car, you start to see that model everywhere. When you make a judgement about a type of people, you will only allow situations that validate that judgement to be noticed in your life. It's like racism. All ___________ are dirty and are on welfare. You don't notice all the others that are not on welfare, you only see the ones that are, and it backs up your initial hypothesis. People think that all priests are pedophiles, because those are pretty much the only priests that make it on tv.
You see what you want to see. You see what helps you justify your own personal bias.

As a christian, I only know of some of the local churches, going door to door to let all know there is something special at their church or a revival and invite all to come.
In our small town, there are occasional outdoor Gospel singing that most of us enjoy and even some unbelievers like the music and singing. That can really touch a heart and maybe cause them to look into their hearts and think of what it means. Now Mormons are the most like to try to convert everyone.

I'm a Christian myself, and I've been preached at by Fundamentalists on the streets (and once, even in a flea market). There are preachers who tour college campuses and tell people they're going to hell, and yes, I've seen them doing this in person. In my town, every single weekend, there's a group of preachers who go out on the main drag holding signs and telling strangers that they're going to hell. Fortunately, these people are very much in the minority, and do not represent the majority of Christians. However, don't pretend that they're not out there, because they are.

It's not the average Christian that bugs atheists, it's the few but vocal stampeding around government, trying to legislate their beliefs and "morals" into laws.

I can deal with people trying to talk to me about their faith, which happens occasionally in public, but when they get into trying to legislate their beliefs - for example, not giving gay people equal rights - that's shoving your religion down people's throats

Why can't I buy liquor on Sunday if I choose to? That's another example

That's forcing a belief on me

You are right. Christians are not generally out on the street yelling and preaching to people. A couple of nut jobs do it, but it's not the majority of religious people acting this way. Some people just look for anything to complain about. It's not that big of an issue and religion is not going to change and lack of faith is not going to change so we all need to chill out on this one.

The solution is simple, if someone tries to have a conversation with you about religion, don't argue with them. Just tell them you are not going to change your mind and ask them to please stop. If they don't stop, WALK AWAY! Don't engage in an ignorant conversation with someone who is trying to change you and don't try to change them. It doesn't have to be so complicated.

I think Atheists are just noticing when Christians say their testimony. The Holy Spirit convicts their soul of their unbelief in Jesus Christ. And then they look at the Christian and say Christians are preaching everywhere.

It just seems like it to them. And in some cases it is true to them because God is trying to get their attention. So? God makes a special point of sending Christians their way, or leading them to a Christian gathering. It isn't a coincidence, it is God.

It does seem like the atheists get more worked up about this issue than any other religion and they are the ones who seem to have the most problems with it.
