We are considering planning our wedding for February 2008. Next year (2008) Valentine's Day will fall on a Thursday, so maybe the Saturday or Sunday before or after Valentine's Day would work. Have you read or heard anything about this being a particularly good or bad time to have a wedding? I was thinking maybe flowers, for example, could be more expensive because of the close proximity to the Valentine's Day rush, but I don't know for sure. We want to get married when it's still a comfortable temperature in Florida. Time is moving quickly so we need to pin down a set date soon! Thanks for your input.

My parents got married on Valentine's Day but that was over 40 years ago so I am sure things such as flowers were less expensive. I liked your idea of having it the Saturday after Valentine's day. I do agree you with you about flower prices though, you mention the word Wedding to a florist and the price automatically jumps way up. I went into the store and picked out what I wanted to have at my wedding and I am going to be making my own floral arrangements for my wedding, it is cheaper, and am going to get exactly what I wanted. :-) Good luck and Congrats!

I got married on February 13. I love having my anniversary around Valentine's Day!

Most definitely, flowers will be more expensive...but if you stay away from roses, this shouldn't be too much of a difference.

I can't imagine that it would be problematic for anything else...most people don't celebrate Valentine's Day in a public way, so the venues should be readily available. It's also probably a fairly slow season for bakers, officiants and musicians.

The only issue I had with the February date was that here in California, it's right in the middle of the rainy season. I was concerned about trying to get from the ceremony location to the reception location in potential wet weather. I solved that problem by having both at the same place...and it turned out to be a lovely day anyway!

Valentine's day is THE day when more weddings will occur than nearly any other day of the year. So if you want to have a wedding on or around that date, be aware that you will be shelling out large amounts of cash for it.

I would recommend the last weekend of the month, although this could have its own pitfalls (since the last Friday is Leap Day, so there may be a lot of people who will want to get married then too). If you're really hip on a February wedding, I'd say the 2nd, the 9th, or the 23rd.

Regardless of what you decide, best wishes to you and yours!!

First, if you get your flowers ordered and paid for as soon as possible, that SHOULD keep the price down if you still go with the weekend before or after Valentine's day. Same with most of the vendors you will use. Keep in mind the key word is "SHOULD" keep prices down. Do you have a venue where all the festivities will take place? If not, figure out how many people you will be inviting, and get a place rented! The more you can pay for now, or a the very least a down payment on, it should help keep your prices down.

Valentine's Day and the weekends on either side of it are usually booked up pretty well in advance, because it's a very popular time to get married. Lots of people love the idea of being married on or as close to Valentine's Day as possible because of the romantic associations of the day.

As to whether it's a good idea...be prepared for a lot of sites and professionals to be booked already, and don't expect any discounts. Other than that, if the weather is generally good around that time where you live, why not? After all, there are reasons why that time is so popular.

Well the wedding season is really in june- august or september then things really slow down till december.
While marrying in feburary will be quite affordable since the prices of everything dont sky-rocket till about june - most couples marry on valentines day even though its a big rush.
I think however valentines weekend is perfect and the weather in feburary then will be just fine - not hot but cool.
Go for it and good luck.

A few considerations:

1) Flowers will be more expensive since it is close to a holiday.

2) I would send out save the dates or let people know of the dates pretty soon. Many people will be celebrating with nice dinners or weekend getaways the weekend after so give them advance notice so as not to mess up their plans. For that reason I would think the weekend before would be better.

February is a good month to get married but I would say to ge married on Valentine's Day because it might be cheaper and the place may already be decorated for the holiday but if you choose to do it on the weekend do it before Valentine's day.

I got married V day this year and it feel during the week but it did not matter our wedding was very private and personal but I woke up a nervous reck and to see the worst snow storm in years. But every thing was great mother nature could not keep that man from me. But if I was you I would do two weeks before or two weeks after because everyone will be busy trying to plan there own thing with their partner like get aways and private dinners. But hey I didn't care about that so it may not matter to you either
