I have a 2 year old cat. I adopted her from the local animal shelter. She gets out every now and again, but come back in a few hours or a day at the most. I see her around the house, and there are like 5 or six cats around her and I can't get her to come in at all. I don't think she's in heat because its not around her cycle. I have tried putting the haveahart trap out, and caught her before with it but I think she's caught on to it. I need to get her back inside so I don't have to worry about her. She has ID, and everything, but I was going to get her spayed today and I couldn't find her to take her. I don't know what to do. She won't come up to me she just runs off, she's kinda skittish, but we have a good relationshuip, I need my baby home! She usually comes back every day or so. There are like 6 cats roaming around in my yard and when she sees me she acts like she doesn't know me. Should I get a new cat and just let her be? I love this cat and I don't want to have to worry about he

Have you tried TUNA or some other very smelly, favorite treat? Once you catch her this time, do whatever you need to to prevent her from getting out again. It sounds like she would go feral if given much of a chance, and feral cats don't live long. Keeping her indoors will give her a long, healthy and safe life, so ignore her even if she begs to go out. She will get used to it and come to be happy even inside. Oh. And good on you for getting her spayed! She'll be better off and so will you, and so will a lot of other kitties that need a home.

If she hasn't been spayed, you may well have a litter of kittens soon. She's drawing in tomcats from all around you, I bet.
Can you leave a garage door open about 6 inches, and put her food in there, then close it when she's in? I don't know what else you can do, unless you try to trap her with a long-handled net, like fishermen use.
And when you do catch her and take her in to get neutered, let the vet know that she was out with other cats, and there's a chance that she may be pregnant. The vet will want to know that detail.

She surely sounds like she's in heat and is entertaining new booyfriends. Their cycles can change and become more pronounced over time. You may have to wait until she's done to get her and then you need to get her in to the vet asap as she may be pregnant or have other reasons for being in heat off cycle that your vet can check for. I'm surprised the shelter let her go before she was spayed at her age. Females become driven by their hormones to breed, harder and harder until they do. Don't just get a new cat and leave her be. You will be dooming her to a life as a breeding machine and be up to your eyeballs in kittens in no time.

Sounds like she's having a good time of some sort....And I would definitely say she's in heat. If she wasn't when she got out she probably is by now with five or six cats sniffing around.
If you can, try leaving a window or door open for a while but stay away. She may have occasion (like hunger) to come back on her own...Expect five or six kittens, each one not looking anything like the others, in about three months. Congratulations!

How long have you had her?
If she is unspayed and outside, you are asking for trouble (in the form of unwanted kittens). If she's newly adopted, it may take her a while to get used to being indoors, but trust me, they get used to it. Using the haveahart trap can still work, especially if she's hungry and there's food inside. Once you get her indoors, you must be diligent to watch her so that she doesn't escape.
Most shelters will not adopt out if they believe you will not keep the pet indoors, so it's your obligation to do so. You don't need a new cat....you already have one. Take care of her.

female cats go on the binge when they want. One thing about cats is they can disappear for days on end and always come home if they want to. If she is not fixed and does come home you can expect her to be a mother though. Some cats gets so used to the outdoors and love it so much they become strays. If it's not to old I recommend keeping her indoors and bring her up that way.
Good Luck
PS. I have a 10 year old female calico I had to do the same with and just lover her to pieces.

ahhhhhhhh the taste of freedom....isn't it great?! that's probably what she is thinking....she likes it soooo much that she does not now want to return to being an indoor cat (too confining for her).
When you are outside...keep trying to coax her in...use her favorite food, or maybe her favorite toy (like a feather or something). You may eventually catch her, but she is going to not want to stay in.
When you do finally get her, check her for injuries, and also get her pregnancy tested....she may be injured or pregnant (and if she is not preganant - please get her fixed!)...cats act funny when they are injured or pregnant.
As for getting another cat...my advice is - "not until you can get this one taken care of adequately.
Good luck
