I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the fact that something is written in the bible does NOTHING to prove the factual basis of the claim itself -- it only proves that someone wrote it down, not that it happened.
This is another logical fallacy, called "assuming the answer". And we're going to keep drilling these into you until you get it right.

The problem with evolution is that it is inextricably linked with the origin of the world (and the origin of the species). Evolution is a law of nature...all living things adapt to their environment or they cease to exist. I learned this when I visited White Sands National Monument (in New Mexico) and saw that virtually every "critter" in the park was white...white lizards, white rattlesnakes, white jack rabbits, even white grasshoppers. Clearly, over the passage of time, those animals that had lighter pigmentation were better able to survive (they blended in to the white sand and thus were more protected from predators than their darker relatives)! This is evolution.
The origin of the planet and the origin of the species are totally different concepts! Both attempt to use science to explain events that simply can't be explained. The wonderful arrogance of scientists is that, through the scientific method, they can know something that's unknowable! The funny (or sad) thing, is that they forget the lessons of history.
Throughout recorded time, "scientists" have always thought that their methods gave them knowledge of things that they couldn't observe directly. At one time, scientists believed that the sun revolved around the earth...don't they look silly now. ...and what about all the scientists that believed that the earth was flat or that fire was an element. Yet the scientists of today, think they are somehow better or smarter than these early scientists who used some of the same methods to arrive at those illogical beliefs.
When it comes to the origin of the world (or the species), the only way science could answer the question is if someone invents a time machine that lets them go back to the beginning and witness it! Conclusions based on all other evidence require a leap of faith...faith in the theory, faith in the premises/assumptions, and faith in the method. All the major theories including intelligent design require people to accept things that can't be proven.
Personally, I prefer to put my faith in God rather than science. Science has been proven wrong too many times. I don't know HOW God created the world, but I do choose to believe that he created it...he didn't explain...but I do believe that any answer created by scientists of today will eventually be disproved by future scientists...and ultimately disproved by God himself in HIS time...even the foolishness of God is greater than the greatest wisdom of man!

If you're using the bible, there was no Planet Earth until God created it. And 6 days after he created it he made Adam and Eve. So nothing happened to earth billions of years before man came b/c man came on the newly created earth only 6 days later.

"If GOD could destroy the earth with the flood..."
That is a big if that has still not been proven, but we can let that go.
There are many Christians who feel no conflict between Genesis and evolution or modern cosmological theory. Those who do have proven a threat to the intellectual advancement of America but trying to shove their primitive beliefs down the throats of others through frivilous lawsuits and commandeering school boards. They are the ones from whom the vigilant atheists must work to protect America.

Evolution is significant. First, let me make a point about Evolution, as I used to be a Chemist.
Evolution from the standpoint of common ancestry is actually not science but philosophy. If you can't observe it or if you can't test it, it's not science. This is one of the greatest failures of our society today, they have failed to make a distinction between the two. To prove my point, try applying the scientific method to the type of evolution that says birds can come from reptiles...
1. Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena.
2. Formulation of an hypothesis to explain the phenomena. In physics, the hypothesis often takes the form of a causal mechanism or a mathematical relation.
3. Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations.
4. Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and properly performed experiments.
Step one never happens because no one has ever observed a reptile become a bird, or a monkey become a human. We have only gathered data and made predictions apart from observation. Thus, step three results in circular reasoning and step 4 becomes impossible to perform.
Now, is evolution vital to Christianity? More specifically, how is it in conflict with Genesis?
There are some good points brought up by a friend of mine who practices apologetics.
" A. Christianity claims that there was no death until Adam sinned. Evolution says that there was death from the beginning (natural selection).
B. This makes God the author of death and suffering and makes a mockery of the incarnation.
C. Why would God seek to save us from that which he created? If his creation is good, then death and suffering must be good, and therefore we would have no need to be saved from them.
D. Evolution also posits that we have progressed from a lesser to a more developed state. Therefore sin is also part of God’s creation, and we have no need to be delivered from it.
E. Christianity claims that everything God created is good, and that it was man’s rebellion that brought death and sin into the world.
F. Man has fallen from a greater to a lesser state, and needs to be saved from this lesser state."
Perhaps you can explain to me now how evolution is reconcilable with Christianity.
A most important observation to make throughout the Scriptures is that God does NOT destroy the works of His hands. They may destroy themselves and each other of their own free will (the result of sin, the flood is punishment due to sin brought on man - thus the animals were preserved in the Arc), but God does not destroy His own creation without cause. If it was good when He created it, why destroy it and create it again? Theres no sense in believing that.

There were lesser forms of man before modern man.
This is a proven fact.
And there were modern men long before the bible or the torah were even thought of.
They wrote books, too. Chinese history is far more accurately recorded than middle eastern history. Did god destroy the Chinese to make way for the Adam and Eve?

And I bet you think the bible was written in English some time in the last century. If you take the bible you are quoting from and go back to the old English is was translated from and then German or Latin it was translated form and then the Greek and then the Hebrew and then the Aramaic and then decipher the centuries of tales over the campfire and you think what you read is actually anything having to do with reality. Fascinating.

People who take Genesis literally are confused to begin with. It wouldn't be surprising that such people get confused over evolution or any other science.

The was no complete flood of the earth!
I'll go try to explain evolution to my Golden Retriever. I feel I'll have a better chance with the concept.

The theory of evolution was created as a way to help eliminate the belief in God. Darwin even said this.
