I would really rather just shut them off permanently, however, there are times when I guess I have to have them. I am just sick of them and they are not really doing me any good. And no, I do not need therapy. I am quite sound.

I am not in any emotional pain and may be clearer than ever. I have grown enough as a human being and feel what is required to "run" my emotions could be put to better use somewhere else.

Tell me if you find a way to compleatly turn off, OK? I still have outbursts... a lot.

I have however learned to control it until I am in privrate. Then I can releace it all. I have more strenght than an avrage human, so I REALLY need to control myself in public.

I don't really know how, I just have enough self control to prevent outbursts in public, I can't hide it compleatly.

You cannot safely turn them off, but you can put boundaries on them.
When you feel a certain emotion that you would rather not feel, give yourself 5 minutes to feel that emotion. Fighting back emotions is what makes them come back again and again repeatedly and albeit uselessly for some.
During those 5 minutes, do your best to fully engulf yourself in the emotion at hand, with anger for example, allow yourself to get as angry as possible in a place where it is OK for you to punch stuff, like next to a tree that wont sue you if you hit it.
Then once the 5 minutes is up, tell yourself thats it. You're done with feeling that emotion for today or for this week.
It takes practice to learn to fully engulf yourself in the emotion and to put a stop to it after a certain amount of time, but it is fully possible.
I use this method for fear and sadness and anger.
You are in control of your emotions!

Our emotions are a result of our thoughts. Cognitive therapy teaches people how to identify the thoughts that are causing unpleasant feelings to occur, and how to change those thoughts to create a different "feeling".
Feeling follows action. Thoughts are considered to be an action. You are in control of your thoughts. Hence, you control how you feel also. Forget about shutting them off permanently. It is part of being human. Unless you want to be a sociopath and do horrific things to other people without the feelings of guilt. Sorry, but having no emotions equals a life sentence on death row. It's your choice.

The usual method is to become an alcoholic or drug addict. Nice people get hooked on emotion killing tranquillisors.

Myself, I might get sloshed (drunk) for temporary relief, as I do not care for it all the time.

Solitude might help.

the only people that are emotionally devoid are people with SEVERE mental illness--this is what seperates us from them--You just have to figure out what is causing the negative emotion
