For people saying I was slow: well gee, I have something called "life". I don't spend all day everyday online and checking news. I'm not from either US or UK.

Just for the record, I couldn't care less about Metallica. I did in the 80s when they actually played metal. For all I care, they can arrest him and put him in jail, and good riddance. I'm just shocked that apparently nowadays a wrong looking beard might be enough to get you in trouble. THAT is ridiculous. It would be equally ridiculous if it happened to John Smith the clerk. It's just that this case leaked into the public.

The world is going to hell, humans are way too paranoid and apparently "not looking right" is grounds for discrimination and suspicion.

I work on an Army Post. Recently, we were visited by the Inspector General for the Army National Guard for an inspection. Two members of his team were detained for over 2 hours because "We're supposed to stop anyone who looks like you" according to the guards at the gate. They came up with some lame excuse about their Common Access Cards so the inspector showed them both their Inspector General Team ID and their Retired Military IDs, but that did no good. If we can treat such distinguished guests and part of an ARMY Team this way, what can we get away with concerning Civilians?? It's a scary thought.

How can you blame the British for taking precautions, after all the bombings that they've had by those who wear greasy beards. If they failed to take precautions, and you were badly injured in a bombing, you'd be screaming that the police should have been suspicious of the guys with the greasy beards.
Just because this guy was a singer does not mean that everybody would instantly know him. Personally, I don't know a single metallic or ceramic singer.

Sounds like garbage to me. But in the unlikely event of it being true then it's poetic justice for the 2 hour ordeal of fingerprinting etc that Brits go through to get into the US.

I think you need to read up a little on the Holocaust if you think these two events can in any way be compared.
Now Communist Russia or Orwell's 1984 would be a just comparison.
