I think if there is an oil shortage there will be a push toward alternative energy sources rather than a resource war.

hey a war against Iraq or watever is laready happening, so don't you think there will be a war between all the superpowers, it's coming someday.
2nd The US is in so much debt that they can't even calculate it anymore. And it's growing exponentially, what do you think theyre gonna do when the people are gonna want their money back. The only thing the US knows, war. ( goodthinking Bush, in this capitalist system we live in, theres nothing better than a war to get your economy up.
, alternative fuels already exist, teh electric car has been invented more than 40 years ago. (lets see whats more complicated , building a gasoline engine, or an electric motor, man what a hard question, SARCASM) If we'd want to change to prevent ressource depletion or climate drastic change then we'd do it, we have the technology, Politicians just can't pull up their pants to get the job done cause they're full of sh*t.
Tim , 150 years till oil shortage, but how many before the planet becomes so polluted that ... well you kniow, (watch an inconvinient truth.

If a war broke out over energy resources, it would be most likely in East Asia because those nations are the most dependent on foreign sources of energy.
Most of American energy resources are clearly within the American sphere of influence (Canada and Mexico). Now there would be energy shortages if the USA had to depend on these resources, but we would still have a substantial amount of resources in non-oil sources of energy like coal and nuclear power.

I do not think that's a possible scenario. We will need to go through several stages before that. The military always have enough oil reserved to wage a war. On top of that, nuclear power , hydrogen power are becoming available. Plus, it is much cheaper to buy oil than to wage a war to steal it. That's just plain stupid.

I doubt it, since oil isn't really a necessity.
The electric car worked. Big oil just killed it.
There are currently a handful of cars in existance which run on TAP WATER. I'm not taking about hybrids or anything, but cars that run on straight TAP WATER.
If oil resources finally get to the breaking point, there will be no excuse for big oil to continue keeping other resources down.

We still have about another 150 years before oil might run out so for now I don't think we have to worry.

I think we would more likely go after Canada and Mexico - neither have Armies - but that's just a doomsday scenario.
