Go to a bank and tell them you will pay the wire costs, and you can get it done in several days.
Another idea is to go to somewhere like American Express, and "buy" some travelers checks (may take a day or two to check out your account.
It's generally not that hard - you can even pay for a call to your bank and have them reserve the money for a check you are going to write.
Easy, but you usually have to pay a few tens of dollars to do it.

Go to a currency exchange. They may ask to see the envelope it was mailed in (if it's a personal check) and they will verify funds with the bank. Somewhat of a pain, but it will work. BRING AN ID with you! So many people forget theirs.

If you have a bank account, they'll let you deposit it - but not likely to be able to get the money for a few days until the check clears.
