Many responders stated that they no longer felt the need to listen to secular music because it did not praise God. To a certain extent, I understand giving up music that expresses different ideals from your own, but what about artists like Norah Jones or U2? Neither praise God, but they have become very popular by creating music with positive lyrics.
By that token, (to those who feel that way) do you not watch any TV shows that don't praise God? Do you not read any literature that does not praise God?

The term secular is not a dirogative one. It simple defines non-Christian things. If something is Non-Christian, it is not therefore bad. God does not judge every little thing you do. He is not some old guy with a chalk board waiting for you to do something or listen to something wrong so he can mark it down. I know many people "Christians" say you can do this or you can do that. The Bible does not say that at all. IF you are a Christian then and only then does the Holy Spirit guide you to be a what God wants you to be. There is nothing you can do right or wrong to be good or bad in the sight of God. Jesus death is all God sees. If you belong to Christ you are saved. If you don't you are not saved. yet God does not Judge you for the things you do wrong. You simply belong to Him thru your Choice to accept Christ. or you don't. your Choice. Choose wisely.

Secular music is anything that does not put God in the spotlight in any way, shape, or form (to me, at least). That doesn't mean that all secular music is bad. There are plenty of secular bands that have positive lyrics... some with spiritual influence, and some without it. The choice of listening to secular music is normally a personal choice to help a believer grow in their faith.
And to answer your second question, I hardly watch TV anymore, if at all, and I also choose not to read anything that doesn't "praise God," which is anything that would go against the Bible or my personal standards.

What we have here is a matter of the heart. We follow where our heart leads.......and that includes all the choices we make in life, including the music we like. To Christians, we call our music 'sacred'.....because in it we worship our God. It is a love song, a thing of our heart towards our loving God. All other music is secular. That does not mean some secular music is bad...not at all. Christians do often listen to secular music. But our heart is mostly attuned to sacred music when we worship our Lord....or at other times when we just like sacred music. Again, it is a matter of the heart. Many of the classics of yesteryear are sacred AND classical........such as the works of J.S. Bach. And yes, Christians do read other things besides Christian books and the Bible. We truly love God.......a deep and abiding love. I hope this helps!

It really isn't the music but the words. Secular music contains words that don't reflect religion, a higher power, or anything church. You can have rock music with religious connotations, and some people would call that sacred.
