Which colors to use for kitchen and living room that go together?

Question

My kitchen and living all run almost together- would like two colors that would tie together- I have only a half wall to seperate kitchen- any ideas would be great -Thank you

i have worked in the painting and decorating field for years..my advice to is this, how big is the rooms are you painting if they are small you need a lighter color and if they are larger you can go a darkert color..and another thing of advice take a throw pillow or curtin in the rooms to your local home depot or Lowe's or to any paint store and look at colors that go together. take them home in your light and look at them. and a tip.. when looking at colors in the store on the little cards..remember they a color printed on paper..sometimes the color is not true. hope this helps

It really depends on the "theme" that you are going with, but I think a southwestern theme would be really nice with a terra cotta orange in the smaller room and a deep yellow/gold color for the larger room. The reason I say the orange in the smaller room is that it's a stronger color, so it will do better in small doses. Then you can use barnwood picture frames and an indian blanket, some dried rushes in a vase, things like that to decorate in the living room, and in the kitchen, see if you can find an old mortar and pestal to set on the counter, maybe some jars of colorful corn kernals or beans. Just one idea out of many, good luck!

My kitchen and living room are the same as yours, and we painted the kitchen a beige, and the living room a lighter version of the kitchen color. I think it looks best if you just use different shades of the same color. It can look kind of funky if you put two different colors together. Good luck, hope this helps!

Try placing a wayne's coating along the wall where you want to seperate the colors at and then it will look seperate. I had the same problem in my house. My living room is light blue and my kithen/dining room is white and black. A wayne's coating is like a strip of wood that you can buy to put up at the top of the ceiling when your not adding a border at the top. Hope this helps!!

country style:

~ duck egg blues in the kitchen with cream wooden units and carrying the cream look into the living room
~ to then compliment the duck egg try a pale yellow (that is slightly stronger than the cream) or maybe a pale green (not apple or mint though)
~ in the living room choose a wallpaper with the duck egg included but that it predominantly cream such as one with blue spots on, or if you're going for paint try all walls in cream and incorporate the blue in other ways like through oft furnishings
~ you have to make the living room look warm which is hard to do with these colours so make sure you have a carpet instead, in the kitchen though a white/cream floorboard look would be nice

modern style:

~ go for shiny units in the kitchen, not necessarily in black or metallic looking
~ go for bold colours or a monochrome look
~ stick to minimizing clutter by keeping appliances hidden and to a minimum
~ have tiles on the floor which can be carried on through the living room but include a rug or something in the living room so it's not too cold on your feet!!
~ go for sharp edges and things that make a statement such as big wall pictures

normal style:

~ wooden cabinets
~ accessorize with plants such as herbs in the kitchen
~ go for calm and cosy colours like browns or hints of warm green and gold or mustard

What color is your sofa? If you aren't going to replace it, I would pull colors from that. If you have dark cabinets in the kitchen, put the lightest of those two colors in the kitchen. If you have light cabinets, put the darkest of the two colors in the kitchen.

How about a tan for the living room and an eggshell for the kitchen? Or vice-versa. Just try and keep the same color, just different hues. :)

I prefer light color in Kitchen part ,so you can paint this part light blue and the other parts can be dark blue, (or different dark and light color combinations )

I would go with either 2 hues of green, or green and yellow - either for either room, but it does depend on furniture and/or carpet color to an extent too.

well its really up to you of what colors you want i mean do you like dark colors,bright colors, soft colors????? what theme are you looking for. i think its best if you pick a theme first then go from there on picking the colors
