Please help me settle this disagreement.

Where you live, is it considered common, uncommon, or just plain rude to go straight to the head of the line to pay for your gas? Most gas stations today have convenience stores where customers can play lottery, buy cigarettes, or other items. If you're only paying for gas, is it okay to go to the head of the line and hand the attendant your money? What if you require change?

(Please give your city and state)

I don't think its ok to skip the line to pay for gas. The attendant still has to personally wait on you to put the info in their system so your gas will be paid for. And obviously, if you require change then definitly no, its not ok to skip the line.

When I need to buy coffee in the morning I still have to wait in line behind all the people buying their stupid scratch-offs and lottery tickets which takes forever. Nobody is entitled to skip the line.

I lived in Chicago most of my life. Just because it's a gas station/convenience store does not mean that the gas section takes precedence. Gas, though it may be the big money maker, is a product that they are selling and you have to wait in line just like everyone else. There have been times when I've been in a gas station paying for gas and buying water or something and someone jumped in ahead to toss $20 or $30 bucks at a cashier and said "Pump 3," and the cashier will have to continue on with what she's doing before she can set the computer to what the person said. It's not only rude to the other customers, it's rude to the clerks.

That's incredibly rude where I live (Atlanta, Georgia). The only reason I can see where this would be excusable is if a man runs in and throws his money down because his pregnant wife is about to give birth in their car. Otherwise, what's so wrong with waiting an extra 30 seconds until it's your turn to pay? Seriously--where's the fire?

I live in Los Angeles, and I wait in line. Since we are all customers even if some arent pumping gas. I think I would get some dirty looks, and the clerk would probably tell me where the line starts.

Nope sorry. Cutting line is never okay and it sounds like you're trying to justify it somehow. Emergency situations maybe - trying to save yourself 4 minutes, then no. Just plain rude. You can probably tell from the other customers' reactions.

It is extremely uncommon and I would find it rude. There is no way to know whether or not people buying other things are also buying gas.

Extremely rude. You should be waiting in line like every customer should.

What?! You wait in line, just like everyone else. I wouldn't be upset if someone had correct change and just jumped in to hand it to the cashier, though, as long as they didn't push their way in.

No one jumps to the head of the line for any reason in my region. (Missouri)

Everyone has to wait in line regardless of what they are buying. You do not have precedence because you are paying for gas.

if you cant wait your turn, then pay at the pump.
would you like it if someone walked in front of you and started to pay for their gas, because they thought you were buying something from the cash?
