You generally wait until 6 months and start her on cereal in her bottle first. My doc said at her 4 month appt, if it seemed like milk wasn't filling her up anymore (since she was born at 10lbs) we could talk about starting it then.
Don't go too crazy..their digestive systems are very sensitive. If you decide to feed her baby food, do a very small feeding once a day until you're sure it doesn't make her vomit/constipated.

well i started my baby at 4 1/2 months with baby jar food and i bought him the stage 1 jars and when he first started he was eating less than half, then he went to half a jar and now that he's almost 6 months he's eating the whole jar, but like i said the stage 1 jars, i don't know if he could finish a stage 2..i don't give it to him all the time either, maybe once a day, 2 days out of the week. I don't think you have to do 3 x a day just yet cause he still needs his formula or breastmilk and giving him 3x's a day feedings will probably leave him not wanting his bottle. I think you are doing just fine.

Hello,Yes, of course you may start feeding your daughter but there is special care with this. And remember the baby still needs her milk bottle all the time and water or juice. I would first start her on the early start baby cereals by Gerber and Beechnut.Take a very small
bowl and put in a little milk and add the cereal to make a cereal paste. Milk can be cold or warm. Your choice. There are infant spoons to fit the size of the child's mouth. Not necessary but convenient for the child. The cereals are marked according to age. You can feed the baby very small portions at first Then you can add after a few days the first infant fruits to the cereal, or separately. After a few days, then you might try the infant vegetables at lunch time. I have included more information and there is a ton of information on the computer on babies. Every question you can imagine for babies. Good Luck.

It 'could be' okay ... but you don't start with the 'baby food' in jars ... you start with PLAIN RICE CEREAL that is made for baby's consumption. You mix a tiny bit into the formula bottle and give that at first. If the baby can eat that for three days and 'tolerate' it (not get sick or constipated) then you can start to 'thicken it' slowly until you can feed the baby it's formula in a bottle and it's rice cereal with a spoon ... and when you do that, you'll get far more of the cereal on the OUTSIDE of the baby than on the inside, so you'll need to make at least twice as much as you think the baby will eat.
Once the baby is on 'plain rice cereal' for breakfast and dinner you may start to introduce the other cereals for babies ... and when the baby is eating at least three varieties of baby cereal, it's time to start introducing other foods. While some people still buy the 'baby food' in jars, it's really best if you do the cooking and pureeing yourself ... and if you are eating a good, low salt diet, it's easy to just take out two tablespoons of plain vegetables and set them aside to puree or 'grind' in a 'baby-food grinder', then pop it into an ice cube tray, COVER and freeze until you want to use it. When you are ready to feed it to the baby, take a 'cube' out of the freezer and 'cook it' at a LOW temperature (microwave is easiest) until it's just WARM ... and start slowly, and use 'plain potato' first, and only a mouthful or two before giving the baby it's cereal. Three days later, give it two mouthfuls of a vegie, like green beans or peas, then three mouthfuls of potato, then it's cereal. Add a new thing every 3-7 days, and if the baby has ANY BAD REACTION stop giving it the last food first, until the reaction goes away ... then start from the 'food' it doesn't have a bad reaction to and use different foods next time. Wait at least six months before restarting the food that had a 'bad reaction' ... some babies have an 'allergic' response because they are getting a food 'too early' for their digestive tracts to use properly, but they may be able to eat them later, when they are slightly better developed.
Starting a baby on food my seem very complicated, but the EARLIER you do it the better off the CHILD will be, because it will be used to 'tasting' new things, and won't become 'stubborn' about eating them when they are bigger.
Now ... you MAY start feeding your baby 'real food' (cereal first, of course) when it can 'sit with support' ... but don't start feeding it 'meat' until it can sit with no support. DO NOT GIVE A CHILD UNDER A YEAR ANY FISH ... and my grandpa gave me smoked oysters when I was only 12 weeks old, and I love them to this day, but that was definitely the WRONG thing to do, since so many children develop allergies to fish/seafood. NEVER give a child under one year old honey ... they can get an infection and DIE from it. Most don't but enough do that the 'rule' is no honey before one year old.
The 'biggest and best' thing I can tell you is this ... if you act 'excited' about the food, and can 'eat a bit' of it yourself, your child will learn that eating new foods is FUN ... and you and the baby should have FUN when you are feeding it! If you can do that, when your child is 'grown' it will be slim, trim, and healthy ... so be careful, start very slowly, and HAVE FUN.

My daughters Dr had told us the same thing the APA suggests... that cereal begin around 4 months, and then baby food begin around 4-6 months, one at a time.
I know many people begin sooner, and their children "are fine", but I'm of the persuasion that the scientists and doctors don't research these things for nothing, and their recommendations are for good reason.

i started feeding mine at 3 months you start with the step one try a little bit. If she chokes on it than it might be too early. What my doctor told me was to start off with the yellow and orange foods first than after a week or two go to the green foods. Just remember to start off with step one. What you can do instead of baby food is do the cereal and make it more runny with formula or breast milk. Good luck to you.

yes but only bland food like rice cereal untill she is used to that then introduce 1 fruit or veg per day for a month or two. the reason i say on per day is in case she reacts to one of the foods at least this way you'll have more of an idea of what she is allergic to (if any). my child health nurse told me to do what i just told u and it worked really well for him

Ask your pediatrician. In families with a strong history of allergy, sometimes they wait until 6 months to start solids.
When we did it, we started with thin rice cereal. After that, we moved into the yellow and orange pureed veggies.
