Take any of the themed ones, for example if he has a ton of little people or Sponge bob stuff save the ones in really good condition! Box them up and put em away, trust me in 20 years they will have been worth it nostalgically to your son or money wise. The rest donate! donate! donate! If you can find a Goodwill or Thrift store, call a local hospital they often have numbers of organizations such as "visiting nurses" that can come to you and pick up the toys. Another good place to drop them off would be a children's doctors office or clinic with a waiting room that's kid friendly, or in need of some toys. Call a local radio station, and ask for any places that take donations.

When my kids were little I used to empty their toy boxes prior to birthdays and Christmas because they had so much. I used to tell them that there were kids with no toys and that it would be nice if they gave up some of their things. Funny thing was that they would willingly hand things over to me (ok, it was mostly the toys they didn't want anymore, but at least they gave them up). My daughter is a pack rat. She keeps everything...and I mean lollipop sticks, old bandaids, broken hair holders...you name it she puts it in her junk drawer. It came to the point that I'd need to clean it out. When she was at school or visiting her dad, I would clean out the junk drawer. When she'd ask where all her stuff went, I told her the junk drawer fairy took it. She actually kind of liked that and would ask when the fairy was coming back. As for organization, storage bins are great if you have the room. I still would suggest you try to get rid of some things so you can make room for new.

I've used three ways of handling this issue. The rotating between playroom and storage, the ask the kids to donate their choice, and the when nobody is looking...

All three work, but I suggest if you use the no one is looking trick, that you only do it with toys they haven't played with in a while.

There are lots of resale kid stores that take toys that are in good condition, if you want a payback.

Otherwise, there are lots of camps for disabled or troubled kids that would probably love to have them. Victory Junction Gang is a good one.

I always had my kids store their toys in order of enjoyment, favorites closest and then on down. Every once in a while, I would explain to them that there were kids who didn't have toys, and ask them to pick out 2 toys to donate to the needy. That way they never felt like I took toys away, they never gave away their favorites, and they learned a valuable lesson about helping others. My daughter and I used to go to the game room and play the game to win stuffed toys, then she would go around and give them away to other kids in the store.

I use to box up many of my daughters toys and then every couple months box up the ones she had out and take out the ones I had boxed up. she always felt like she was getting new toys and loved it.

Try giving them to ARC or Goodwill! I think that would be the best!
