tattoos don't ruin your skin. frankly the sun is much more horrible for the skin than tattoos.

and many people on this forum are serious about their tattoos and don't get them to be cool. many of us are not teens and early 20's there are people ranging in age from late 20's to 60's in this forum who are still actively getting tattooed.
did you ever think about the fact that people with tattoos may not be as vain about the way they look and will look with age? everybody gets older and everybody's skin will age. how well you take care of your skin when you are younger is the key to having great skin when you get older and tattoos have no bearing on that at all.
frankly when i see a 70 year old man in a store with an old weathered tattoo it makes me smile, to know that he was a pretty rockin guy back in the day. tattoos are definitely something that connects us, we have a commonality despite our vast age difference.

my tattoos are art and i cherish them for what they are and what they mean to me. so that is why this "anyone" would get a tattoo.

First of all, who cares what you think? But I'll respond anyway.
I did put lots of thought into getting my tattoo, as do most people. I know there are people who run out and get one as soon as they're 18 just for the sake of getting one, and, unfortunately, this became the stereotype for all people with tattoos.
My skin is healthy. I moisturize and exfoliate and apply sunscreen. I don't know what tattoos you've seen, but mine just feels like regular skin, but now it's got a design and some color. If it's done properly and well taken care of, it doesn't affect your skin's health.
Next, who cares what my tattoo will look like when I'm 70. At 70, when I'm wrinkly, I don't plan on dressing too revealingly anyway. You are going to be just as ugly and wrinkly as I wil be.
Besides, why do we have to do YOU a favor anyway? Who are you to tell people what to do, or question their decisions? You don't even know any of us. We live in free countries, where we can make our own choices, and if someone wants to get inked, let them. How does it affect you in any way?
By the way, so sorry you are so close minded.

So... what DOES it do to your skin? The ink is under your upper layer of skin, and just shows through it. When you first get a tattoo, the skin turns into a scab, yes. But once it heals it's just like the rest of your skin, you can't even feel the difference. Scar tissue only appears if you go to a crappy artist that tears up your skin.

As for the "It's gonna look like crap when you're 70" thing, If the worst thing in my life at the age of 70 is a crappy looking tattoo, i figure my life is going pretty damn well. Plus, everything looks like crap when you're 70. The other 70 year olds aren't going to laugh at you, because a lot of them are going to have tattoos too.

Don't lump all the people that get tattoos into the same catagory. Some of us do think about what we're getting, and we want to get them anyway.

The difference between tattooed people and non tattooed people is tattooed people don't care that the others aren't tattooed. Seriously, we don't freak out at your decision to keep your body free of tattoos, don't freak out that we decided to get them.

If I misunderstand parts of your question, I apologize. The odd grammar and misspellings have confused my poor caveman brain.

At best, this addresses those who get tattoos in their late teens and early 20s. Do you assume that these are the only people that age get tattoos? If so, I must be lying on my license where it says "born xx/xx/1966". Also, should I pass this onto my friend who's 75 & got her first tattoo last year? Since she's past 70, will getting a tattoo de-age her to 70? I suspect she wouldn't mind.

Perhaps those of a younger age - any age, really - seeking a tattoo to be popular could be cautioned to think about what they get, but I'm not clear how a rant here will change that. A little "think before you ink" commentary seems sufficient to me.

How is it horrible the the skin? Define please. Despite all the fear mongering the act of tattooing has no verifiable bad effects. If you know otherwise, please, cite sources, but so far at least two dermatologists I've spoken with disagree with you in addition to all of the sources online. And no, potential dangers of dirty needles don't count into this, although certainly one of the things to be concerned with in general. Otherwise, you could lead a charge against dentists' offices as well.

Sun damage is bad for the skin. Are you also going on a crusade against tanning with a post such as this? There is a lot of data to support that kind of post, and I for one can vouch for that being a dangerous activity. That & smoking, two simply *terrible* things you can do to your skin & body and are *very* common, are probably even worse that a visit to a scratcher...

Addendum: As much as I otherwise like your answer, Organized Chaos, the 8 glasses of water a day is something of an urban myth. It's not a *bad* thing to do, but snopes has an article on it & some potential sources for the (mis)information.

You have stepped into a very personal domain for most people.
I have tats and plan to get more.
For me they are a story about my life. Each one represents other painful or beautiful things that i have endured.
I also believe that the human body is a beautiful canvas and this is the way that i present my art.
You talk about when people like me are 70????
seriously.... who cares???
First of all.... some of them you cant see unless im wearing a mid drift tank top.... and when im 70... dont think that will happen...
Second of all.... the ones you can see.... if people have questions of think its odd.... quite frankly... they can other ask what they mean or kiss my *** if they have a problem!!
I cherish everyone of my tattoo's , more than anything in this world because to me... they hold my past, present and future stories. Some that i have never shared with anyone.
Its a very personal thing to most people... and maybe your too superficial to see that.
If you continue to judge people for having tattoo's and such.... then you are going to miss out on meeting some great people in this life!! That is truly sad!
One of my next tattoo's i'm getting by the way... is a black cancer ribbon. It represents Melanoma. (The worst type of skin cancer you can have) I am getting this to represent my current battle through cancer! and to support those also fighting it or those who have beat it. Not to mention to mourn the loss of those who didn't beat it.
Some people write poetry to get out there emotions and feel spiritually calm.... others (like me) tell our stories this way.
I feel sorry for you that you have to be so judgemental and closed minded on the topic.

and... just so you know.....
I have NEVER went "tanning" a day in my life... and ended up with skin cancer.... The doctors confirmed that it developed from the sun. Yet i have plenty of tattoo's and have yet to discover a problem with my skin due to the ink.... so maybe some research is needed for you on this topic.

you don't even have an ounce of a valid point here. Someone who's 70 with a tattoo is not hideous, that's your opinion.
And yes, we know what its doing to our skin, did you just discover some new health risk that just showed up today even though people all over the world have been getting tattoos for thousands and thousands of years? If so, please share some REAL advice for those who might be considering getting a tattoo. Otherwise don't pointlessy rant.

***and in the case that you're joking, sorry I don't have a sense of humor yet this morning***

when you pay my bills and put food on my table you can tell me what and what not to do. If you hate tattoos so much then stay the hell off of here.If all you want is points go to the garden section. If all I have to do when I'm 70 is worry about how I look, instead of who is going to feed, clean, and take care of me then I dint care. At least when I'm old I can look back and say I remember when I got my tattoos and who I was with. You on the other hand won't even have a memory. You'll look at your skin and say its skin , Whats that for?

why do you care what anyone else does to their body. At 70 i don't think i will be worried. by then most 70 year old people will have an old tattoo. most people by that age are not worried about how each other look. most will have already had a number of surgreies, maybe missing a finger, walking with a cane, etc. Nobody is going to care about a tattoo.

I for one DO think about my tats BEFORE I get them and I don't need some fool on a rant telling me to do so! And what makes you think that I would want to show off my wrinkled body anyway when I am old?
"Cool"? I don't know many people who get them to be "cool" anymore....mostly they have meaning, something special to that person..for the people who still get them just to be "cool" yeah I do think that they should think it through, but I am not going to randomly tell them to think about it! It is their body! Unless they ask what I think, it is their choice.
As far as your "healthy skin", go into the tanning salon or the beach and rant to those people getting tans if you feel the need this badly to rant about something...UV rays DESTROY skin ALL OVER! So when they are old they will be leathery...to me that looks FAR FAR worse then a tattoo on an older person (or younger for that matter)....to which I might add many older people get them, not just the younger crowd...
and again back to the UV rays.... you say think about what a tat is doing to your skin...tats don't cause WRIINKLES sun exposure DOES...especially the way these young people soke it up....will cause sun damage and cause MORE wrinkles! tattoos don't cause cancer either, sun can! ..think about THAT before you rant to us about YOUR personal opinion and how bad YOU think tats are....There are far worse things in this world to worry about then the person next to you getting a tattoo.

if you really feel the need to rant to people about healthy skin and what it will look like when you get older...go preach to the sun bathers.
As someone else said....What do you care anyway? You do what you want with your body and I will do what I want with mine.
