first, get as much info as you can from family.it's a time saver. ancestry.com is a good site but it costs. they have all the info you need to start. try posting this in geneology too. the people there know more. happy hunting.

I know that you are wanting to know "internet links" to family
history research, but for a few years I did not have a computer
and did all my research, in writing, and got responses on
stationery, from agencies, libraries, etc, which I thought is
nicer than on the internet.
But the first thing you need to start with is:
(1)Make a Form, which states your name, your birthdate,
place of birth, your mom's name, your father's name, and
the type of Hobbies/Occupations, you have, and Perhaps
have a space for your own Medical History.
(2) Make a copy of that form and use for "EACH INDIVIDUAL", who you are researching, and fill in the
spaces. (I made my own form, to break down any information
so I could understand the information better, and to know
what "blanks" need to be filled in.
(3)Information on anyone, FOR DOCUMENTS OF PROOF,
can be found: Archives of Newspapers (found at libraries),
Funeral Homes (in a town where someone died/buried),
Courthouses (County Clerk's Office has Original "School
Enrollment Cards", and will make copies of as many as you
want, on each of the people you search for), Genealogy
and Historical Societies in each County (where you need
information from), County Courthouses have Information
on Deeds, Probates/Wills, Marriages, etc.
(4) You will need to DOCUMENT YOUR FAMILY HISTORY
FOR THE PROOF OF ALL YOUR BLOODLINES, just in
case there is some Indian Bloodline, or anything that might
connect you to some Benefits, of which you might not be
aware.
(5). After you have some information, and you can get this
from your own Birth Certificate, and that of Your Parents.
You can then, send "Dear Editor" Letters to ANY NEWSPAPERS AROUND THE WORLD, to locations,
where your parents, grandparents, cousins etc. may have
lived or died.
In these inquiries, you may mention any information about
the relatives / ancestors, etc. that you are researching...
***You can bet, that, where a Relative lived, or died, THERE
IS STILL AT LEAST ONE RELATIVE / DESCENDANTS
OF THEIRS, STILL LIVING IN THAT AREA..
I've found this to be so, and I've found some reall sweet &
kind older relatives this way.
In fact, very soon, later this month, one of the descendants,
of the Slaves, which was owned by one branch of my
family, WILL BE COMING TO VISIT ME, and Sharing their
life story with me.
I have been looking forward to finding, descendants of the
Slaves, which were "OWNED", by the many ancestors of
Mine.
Hope this helps. Need more info, ask....TF
