"According to Catholic doctrine, these Communities do not enjoy apostolic succession in the sacrament of Orders, and are, therefore, deprived of a constitutive element of the Church. These ecclesial Communities which, specifically because of the absence of the sacramental priesthood, have not preserved the genuine and integral substance of the Eucharistic Mystery (19) cannot, according to Catholic doctrine, be called "Churches" in the proper sense "

Or something else ( I missed the speech)

Honestly, people would get upset over anything any religious leader says. All the pope did was restate a belief shared by every religion on the face of the planet. The whole, "mine is right". It's a statement shared by Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Pagans, Wiccans and even Atheists (who, while not a religion, do believe that their beliefs are right). If a Muslim Iman (did I spell that right)/Jewish Rabbi/Protestant Minister/Hindu Monk/Buddhist Monk/etc. came out and said, "According to our doctrins, (belief) is the right religion" you can expect two reactions.
1. The media going crazy and stirring up hate towards that statement like they did with the Pope's.
2. Me not being surprised since, yes, every person wants to believe they are right.

Hi John,

What people are getting upset about is that Yahoo News misquoted the pope claiming he said the Catholic Church is the only true church.

People here are so small minded as to think this applies only to the ROMAN Catholic Church - but there are 21 branches of Catholicism under the Holy See. Byzantines, Greeks, Syriac, Armenian - just to name a few.

Yahoo News should be ashamed. So should the people who jump to conclusions without THINKING.

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 819: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p3.htm#819

With love in Christ.

you're incorrect. The Pope is merely infallible while conversing on faith and morals and from the chair of Peter. Thats has merely been carried out 2 or three times in the two,000 3 hundred and sixty 5 days historic previous of Jesus Christ's Catholic Church. And definite Peter became into the 1st pope and became into chosen with the aid of Jesus Christ to steer His church

It wasn't a speech. And it wasn't by the Pope, though the Pope approved it before it was released. And yes, that's it - not a word or idea that is new, just reiteration of the Catholic Church's standard teaching. Why all the fuss?

The document does NOT say that non-Catholics are not Christian; and it does NOT say that non-Catholics are not saved.

Um, yeah, the Pope just stood up and said "everyone not a Catholic is not truly a Christian because (insert your quote here)"

Understandably, the rest of those sects are now pretty upset.

At the last supper, did Jesus break a piece of himself off and say "do this."? Or did he break bread?

Did he draw blood for his disciples to drink?

Where in scripture does it indicate a necessity for a "eucharist"?

---
Here, once again, is what I think about it.
---

Jesus Christ is the only Head of the Church!

Under what authority does the Pope make this endorsement?

His Own!

The Church is comprised of Jesus Christ, the Light, and all who believe in him.

Will the Pope loosen and discard a brick of the Church tower that God Almighty has seen fit to place there?

Do we all need 20 years education to be saved?
Or do we just need the Faith of a 3 year old?

We need to accept Jesus as Savior, and REPENT of our sins. Faith without works is dead.

As far as worshipping the infallable Pope, praying to men or the dead, and needing a "special" person to create a "special" communion? (Whats a eucharist?)

No. Shame on you.

No different than the Pharisees in Judea. Rome has not changed a wink.

Like dogs you lie down in the trough of eternal life, and not only do you not drink yourselves, you prevent others from drinking.

My personal feeling is that the path to Hell is indeed Wide. And many will travel down it.

It would not surprise me in the least if Satan himself uses the Catholic Church to raise up the Beast of Armageddon.

Anyhow.. does anyone truly know where the thing they do every 5 seconds...when they say "In the name of the...." with their forehead and shoulders? Where did that come from? Does it say to baptize yourself every 5 seconds?

In my opinion it is a sect blinded by Tradition, Traditions kept alive so that man can feel needed. Power.

All these fundementalists are going crazy and are thinking that the pope is the antichrist. He is simply restating church doctrine that has existed for ages.
