We are buying a house and have discovered there is real hardwood under the carpet It is not in good shape would it be worth the work to do it ourselves or would it make more since to hire someone

I did it, and I am not handy at all. I rented a machine to smooth the floor and bought a finishing product I spread wit a mop. Looks great! It is hard work, but it is very expensive to hire somebody to do it. Good luck!

We hired ours out because we just didn't have the energy nor the time. It wasn't too expensive and the floor looks amazing, almost looks brand new.

If you can find someone that is reasonable, will show up when they say they will and can do it soon, you might as well have it done. If you ever do decide to sell this house the hardwood floors will bring up the value so they are worth the investment.
