I am 13 and my brother is 15. He plays basketball 24/7 and our family is CRAZY this summer. Between baseball, and softball, and basketball, and both of my parents working to keep not only their own buisness running, but other jobs also...we need some quick, easy, healthy meals that our family would enjoy. Do you have any suggestions?

there are a lot of recipes already out there. so i will just say make healthy stuff more available. like throw out a veggie plate with your fave dip at dinner or cut up fresh fruit with breakfast. sometimes healthy stuff hiding in the fridge isn't enough motivation(esp not for my family). i don't know how healthy you want it. another thing you can do is try diff ways of cooking things. i started baking fries(the frozen kind) i know it sounds weird but it doesn't taste much different. I take a little of the oil i would normally deep fry the fries in and i just drizzle it over the fries on a baking sheet. i experiement with different spices and cheeses - i like it. plus you don't have to watch it as closely(meaning you can do other things with that time)also sometimes americans just overdo stuff. so why not try some authentic ethnic cuisines some of the recipes on the internet are great. hope it helped and i support your cause

Make Over 200 Juicy, Mouth-Watering Paleo Recipes You've NEVER Seen or Tasted Before?

Wow, you are one busy 13-year-old! This is something my family likes, including my 7-year-old son who doesn't usually like things that are spicy or "ethnic". It's a Malaysian noodle dish and it is cheap, filling and easy. This recipe serves 4, but you could double it if you use two pans.

Malaysian Noodle and Pork Stir-Fry
--8 oz. dried noodles--you can use Chinese egg noodles or plain vermicelli or spaghetti
--3 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
--1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger. or use 1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
--1 1/4 teaspoon curry powder (when I make this for my son, I use a little less)
--2 garlic cloves, minced or pressed, or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
--1/2 pound trimmed boneless pork loin or tenderloin, cut into thin 2-inch strips
--1 tablespoon canola (or other vegetable) oil
--6 green onions, washed, sliced about 1/2 inch thick
--2 large stalks of celery, sliced about 1/4 inch thick
--1/2 a medium-sized red bell pepper, trimmed, seeded, and cut into strips
--about 2 tablespoons chicken broth (if I don't have any on hand, I use soy sauce thinned with water)
--1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil

Cook the noodles in boiling salted water until just tender. Drain and rinse with cold water. Drain again and set aside.

While noodles are cooking, stir together the soy sauce, ginger, garlic, curry powder and the pork. Let marinate 10 minutes or until the noodles have finished cooking.

In a large nonstick frying pan (or wok, if you have one), heat the oil over medium-high, until hot but NOT smoking. (On my stove, this is about 7 on the heat dial, which goes from 1 to 10.) Add the green onions, celery and bell pepper strips. Cook, stirring constantly, for about 4 minutes, just until the onion is starting to soften.

Stir in the pork, scraping the marinade in too. Cook and stir for 3 minutes, until the pork is no longer pink on the outside. Stir in the broth, the sesame oil, and the noodles. Cook and stir for another minute, or until the liquid is mostly absorbed.

Some sliced fresh fruit and some lemonade or limeade and you're all set! Even though this dish is not high in fat, it's very filling, which should help when it comes to serving a teenage brother.

You deserve major props for taking the initiative to help your family out during this crazy time. Bravo! :)

I've gone through the same transformation this summer and we've been doing a lot of salads... just a bag of lettuce and whatever is in the fridge, be it blueberries, cucumber, avocado, sunflower seeds, etc. We just mix up some extra virgin olive oil and whatever vinegar we have on hand - my favorite is a pear-infused vinegar - and just sprinkle it over the salad. I love topping it with stuff like ramen noodles (the dry ones), nuts, dried fruit, etc. It's just easy and it's really refreshing on warm days. Plus you can always bake chicken... or pan-fry strips (just soak in egg wash and add a bit of seasoned flour - flour with salt, pepper and garlic) to top on salads.

Make salsa... it can last several days. Chop up tomatoes, peppers (chiles, jalapenos, thai) in a food processor and add cilantro, lime, a hint of garlic and a bit of parsley.

Also, experiment with seasonings... I've done a lot this summer with different blends of sea salt... including some rather interestnig looking red and pink. Wraps work good, using whole-wheat tortilla shells or shells with veggies and herbs. Just have fun trying out whatever.

Place chicken breasts in 8x8 glass pan. Cover with your favorite salsa. You don't even need extra spices because the salsa has plenty. Reserve some salsa for after cooking. Cover with foil and bake on 350 for 45 minutes or so. Once chicken is done, cover with remaining salsa and shredded reduced fat cheese. Pop back into warm oven for 5minutes to melt cheese. Add some lite sour cream, if you like, on your plate. One pan .. super easy.

On a side note. .. I think it's great, especially at 13, to take your family's busy schedule and their health into consideration! :o)

For your busy life, throw pieces of beef/lamb/chicken into the slow cooker in the morning, add in carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, tomatoes and season with Lea & Perrin, pepper, salt and a little cornflour mixed with water to thicken the gravy. Serve with good old crusty bread. You can alter the taste by using button mushrooms, capsicums and other vegetables. Sometimes, just frying the meat pieces or potatoes and browing them makes it a little tastier. As food in a slow cooker will sort of look the same, experimenting with different ingredients will at least give you and your husband something to look forward to after a long day at work! Good luck!

I have a hard time eating veggies, so my grandma told me about this one, and i love broccoli & carrotts & cola flower now!

You get the veggies that you want, put them in a strainer and put a lot of ice in with it.

Pick the veggies out and put them into a bag of parmasean cheese, ( grated, not powdered) and toss until you have the desired amount on the veggies.

Dip into greese for only a second! If you leave them in there to long, it kinda takes away the healthy factor.

But its so good! With ranch or other dressings.

Hope you like it!
