My mom has a thing for frying the heck out of meats...for example her fried chicken looks like mummy buttcheeks (Daddy Warbuck's wife)...lol...was he even married in that Annie show? whatever... My dad who is "Mr. rare steak" always complains about it.

Oh, how about if they want you to cook their favorite dish, one that has an ingredient that you hate or are grossed out by...maybe like when you clean squid for making fried squid rings? Anyone out there not like the food of their culture or vice versa?

The last line was meant to ask if your significant other hates the food of your culture...or you, theirs.

My husband loves fried liver and onions. . .a dish I absolutely refuse to cook on the grounds that I can't stop throwing up long enough to fix it. I hate, loathe, despise, detest, and abhor the smell of cooking liver -- let alone the taste of the vile, nasty, evil, disgusting, repellent stuff.

Did I mention that I'm not very fond of liver?

The only time he gets liver and onions is if he's on a business trip and the stuff happens to be on the menu at the restaurant where he's eating. I told him years ago that if he wanted liver and onions while we were eating together, that was fine. He'd be eating on one side of the restaurant, and I'd be eating on the other.

I don't think he actually believed me. . .until the day that he did, and I did.

Well, due to restrictions on my hubby's beef intake, I've made a few modifications to our grilled food that still gives you the "feel" of a hamburger. I've actually started to like them too. Here's a recipe if you are interested: 6 large portobello mushrooms 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 tablespoon lemon juice 2 cloves garlic, crushed and minced black pepper A-1 steak sauce Wash the mushrooms very carefully to remove any dirt. Remove the stems and set the mushrooms aside. Combine the olive oil, crushed garlic, lemon juice & pepper together in a small pot on the grill. Cut the largest mushrooms into halves or into strips. Brush the portobellos with the olive oil mixture. On a covered grill over medium coals, grill the portobellos stem-side down for about 7 to 8 minutes. Turn and grill the tops of the portobello mushrooms for about 6 to 8 minutes longer. The grilled portobello mushrooms should be tender and nicely browned. I serve them with an A-1 steak sauce and they taste wonderful. You can serve them on a bun and add any healthy condiments (lettuce, onions, mustard, etc.) and fixings that you would add to a hamburger.

I rarely eat the food my parents cook, its not like there not descent cooks either, i was born in texas and now live in IL. i dont eat any food thats spicy, i dont eat seafood or any red meat...also i hate pizza, so basically in the past 2 years i cook for myself. I love Japenese, Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese food. I do agree though fried squid sounds extremely discusting. if thats there favorite dish i would restort to making it with a subsitute that they might like or just ordering it for them. Maybe ask them if there possibly anything else they would like. i bet they will understand.

Good luck

This is a dish I love that my other will not eat.

Saute 6-8 sweet banana peppers and 1 large onion in olive oil. Add 1/2 cup fresh herbs, basil, thyme etc, add 1 cup chopped walnuts. When all of this gets done, add to 1 lb cooked drained rotini pasta. Serve with parmesean and crushed red pepper. Delicious. Serve at whatever temp it is when you mix it up.

He hates mushrooms & seafood. I hate bell peppers. If I cook seafood at home, I will get him a nice steak. We usually omit the mushrooms and the peppers from anything we eat together.
Making pizza at home is great because we each make our own one and put whatever we want on them.

My hubby doesn't like the way I cook veggies or pasta. He thinks I under-cook them. He wants everything mushy and "done". One of my favorites is carbonara, but he doesn't think the bacon is done and there's *gasp* raw egg, even though I've explained that it is cooked from the heat. But I don't eat his tuna salad because he uses real mayo. And he puts whole chunks of tomato in his chili even though I told him I don't eat tomato chunks. So I pick around them.

Don't get me wrong, we don't fight about this. We just have weird eating habits.

I love steak medium rare. It freaks my hubby out. Also, he gets really squeamish about sushi. Even california rolls. So, I don't even bring take-out to the house- I eat out with my girlfriends.
