Birds in the wild function by the sun. Just before the sun comes up they start to move about and just before the sun goes down, they begin to roost for the night. However, that doesn't always work for companion parrots. Mine go to bed, in a room away from household noise, at 8:00 p.m and I wake them at 8:00 a.m. They deal well with this schedule but in truth, they'd like to go to bed a little earlier. Mikki, my White Eyed Conure, starts saying "peek-a-boo", his word for night-night, at about 7:00 p.m. When they come back from boarding at the vets, he starts it at 6:00 p.m.

When the Rooster crows and When the Rooster crows again. LOL!
I cover my birds so, normally they wake up when I do and uncover the cage. Then before I go to bed I cover them.
Mine fly around free so, a parakeet may fall asleep on my shoulder or back of a chair. Then I wake it when I go to bed and put into the cage. If, I am late getting up they may start to make some noise as they see daylight. I just let them out and go back to bed. But, usually then they come messing with me until I get up.

I always covered my birds when I went to bed...maybe around 11:00. We uncovered them when we got up in the morning between 7-8. Sometimes if we slept in, they let us know they wanted to be uncovered.
