For women: Don't wear white, that color is reserved for the bride. Don't wear black, it's a color of mourning and this is a happy day! There will still be folks there of earlier generations that may take offense. A lightweight dress or dressy pantsuit is perfectly acceptable. Wear dress shoes... get a pedicure if you need it... Also, because this is not a formal wedding (after 6:00 p.m.) you should not wear anything too revealing. No plunging necklines, no spaghetti straps, no low back, nothing 4" above the knee, no ultra-high heels, no Cirque du Soleil makeup. A conservative sundress with some pumps or flats is fine.
For the guys: Sorry, fellows, you have to wear a tie. Wearing a suit is better, but at the very minimum, you should wear a pair of dress chinos, a long-sleeved button-down shirt, and a tie. You can take off the tie after the groomsmen take theirs off...and feel free to NEATLY roll up your sleeves, following suit. But, keep the shirttail tucked in! Wear conservative shoes... no sneakers or flip flops. Remember to shave and if you need it, get a haircut!
A basic rule of thumb is, wear what you would wear to a social function for work. You can look nice without drawing attention to yourself. Keep in mind, you may make it into the wedding album and don't want to look ridiculous.
Remember, it's not about the guests, it's about the happy couple and their day of celebration!

A nice summery dress in a lightweight material will be your best bet!
You want to refrain from wearing white, which is typically the bride's color. Also, you might want to avoid wearing the same color that the bridesmaids are wearing.
A summer print like flowers, or a pink or baby blue dress are great options.
JC Penney, Macy's, Target, Kohl's and a number of other stores that carry nice clothes for lower prices are a great place to start. I've also found adorable things at Forever 21.
All of these stores have websites where you can browse the clothes and see if they carry styles, patterns, materials and colors you like!
I wish you the best!
Summer weddings are wonderful!!!

Is it a formal wedding, garden wedding, backyard wedding? You need to know so you can dress appropriately. I'm assuming it's an outside wedding of some sort, so I would suggest, depending on the formality, to wear something flowing softly with a wrap for your shoulder or a shrug if it goes into the evening and starts to get cool. Make sure it's light color, (not white) as darker colors attract the sun and will make you hotter.

girls: a reasonably dressy looking cotton dress, if you have great shoulders and neck then a strappy little number would be great, if not find something with a sweetheart neckline and little cap sleeves, something you can be comfortable in but still look dressed up~very little makeup, [mainly because in august its just too darn hot]~and strappy shoes. please do not wear a white dress, i know its an old fashioned idea, but no one but the bride and/or her attendants should wear any shade of white! some people think the idea is silly, but you will still find a lot of people who feel wearing white is just in poor taste. besides why take the chance of offending the bride or anyone else. find a pretty summery print or a soft pastel color and you will look as pretty as can be.
guys: if it is really hot you can get away with dress pants and a dress shirt, if its bearable you should wear a sports coat that compliments your trousers or a two-piece suit.
and while girls can get away without stockings if their legs are tanned, fellas you have to wear socks. a tie is a must but can be loosened off once the formalities of the wedding service are over.

I think most of the rules are out the window now - as long as you are comfortable, not over dressed (a long evening gown would be completely out of place, as would jeans for men or women), and don't outshine the bride or groom - wear whatever you want to.
I like to wear a summer dress with sandals - no pantyhose - use a body slimmer if you need one and splurge on a manicure and pedicure. Guys - nice slacks and polo shirt, or short sleeved cotton - no tie required.
Have fun!

A classy looking linen or flowing print 3/4 length dress with handkerchief hem that is not too revealing and in a color that enhances your skin color or tan and reflects your personality. An up hairdo will look stylish and cooler for you with a hair ornament/flower to look chic....Match accessories to compliment your dress...Do not upstage the bride if she is a bit more casual for the summer. Ask a relative close to the bride like her mom to see what the the formality is for the wedding.....
If it is an inside wedding, remember to take a cover up/shawl...it may get cooler with A/C. Outside, beware of the sun and wear some sun protecting lotion... beware of over powerful perfume, you do NOT want to attract bees and bugs....
Men should wear a dress suit w/tie or modern color shirt in a light weight/lighter color to dark depending on formality.
If it is a casual garden party wedding, dress khaki/linen pants, light color shirt w/blazer...wear dress to casual shoes..
When in doubt, call to ask the party/wedding response receiver to help clarify the attire expected of guests to not offend anyone and not look out of place...
.ENJOY!!!...We were married on a HOT August day 27 years ago....I was so nervous, I did not feel the heat or humidity....

If you are female, then a classy sundress. If you are male, I would suggest khakis, button up with a tie or a nice polo shirt. Don't wear tennis shoes. Wear nice shoes. If the wedding is at a posh country club, then jacket and tie might be required. Phone a friend.

Is the wedding inside or outside? Is it formal or informal? Wear something cool, but appropriate. Remember that many places are cool inside even if it is hot outside, so think of layers.. Also remember that some religious places would require some coverage (e.g., a jacket or a head covering). Then wear what you are most comfortable with considering the circumstances.

You can wear a sundress, or a light weight summer dress. Linen slacks and top. You don't say if the wedding is inside or outside or both. Middle of the day weddings are not usually a formal as evening weddings.
