Marines are trained to make amphibious landings and secure the beach head so that we can offload ships and bring in more troops and supplies.
The Army is trained to fight a long term conflict taking terrain and remaining for a much longer period of time.
The weapons they use are almost interchangeable, with a few Mission Essential pieces of equipment, ie, the AV-8b harrier, and Light Armored Vehicles that the Marines use, and the Army uses the Bradley. There are some others but suffice it to say, they buy their weapons from the same store.

A marine traditionally was a "Sea-going Soldier"
The first Marines were Spanish (1537) followed by Portuguese Marines (1610) and the French Marines (1622). British, 1664, Duke of York and Albanys MARITIME regiment of Foot.
Marines were stationed on board ship between navy crew and officers, because the crew had not taken any oath of loyality, One of the marines functions was to prevent mutiny by the ships crew, which is why you will see even today tradition for even the US Navy, is marines guard the door to ship captains etc. It is also why the US saw the British marines and decided to form their own, its why the US marines use the same emblem as the British Marines a Globe, the British use the Globe and Laurel as their cap badge and have the motto "By Sea By Land" .
No insult intended merely pointing out that the US Marine corps has morphed into something far from being a Marine corps, the US Marine corps is almost a US Armed services in minature, they have their own Tank, Artillery units, fighter aircraft and pilots etc etc, whilst the British Royal Marines are basically still just a Marine force and any support comes from attached units of army (armour, artillery, sappers, signals etc) all army personnel going to attached role for Marines undergo the Marine green beret course.
So bascially to answer your question a Marine is a soldier but under a different name, history and tradition, any marine who gets upset being called a soldier is just being pedantic and not very realistic just relying on corps despirt.
During the Napoleonic Wars, the Royal Navy suffered from manpower problems in the Marines, and so regular Infantry units from the Army often had to be used as shipboard replacements, including a detachment of the Royal Irish Fusiliers 87th Regiment of foot, this Regiment is one of the three regiments which formed my old regiment,(The Royal Irish Rangers) so Soldiers from the Army served as Marines, proving the point Marines are just "Soldiers of the Sea" which is nothing to be ashamed of but indeed very PROUD.

I answered the question before. Under the Geneva Agreement, all members of our Armed Forces are be considerd "soldiers" if at war. But don't tell that to a Marine, they have sea water for blood and love to charge at the enemy from the sea. Army soldiers feel more comfortable at land and that's their mission. Generally though, "soldiers" are in the Army; "sailors" in the Navy; "airmen" in the Air Force and "marines" (all-in-all soldier) in the Marines. Another branch of armed forces is the Cost Guards, belonging to the Department of Transportation and that gets attached tothe Navy in times of war.

A "soldier" is in the army. A "Marine" actually is a branch of th US navy. Weaponry is the same, although the marines take pride in using any type of weapon when needed. All marines are trained as rifleman first. Marines were originally used as ship board security forces, then progressed into amphibious landing troops. Now they are one of the best fighting forces in the world.

The Marine corps started out as a division of the Navy, but later became its own branch of the military. Just like the other branches they have armaments and troops for air, sea, and land. Marines are generally thought of as better ground troops than the Army, except for the elite divisions such as Rangers. The Marines also have a greater percentage of pilots than any of the other services.
Soldier generally refers to any military serviceperson.

Army- land, Air Force- sky, Navy-water(even though Marines are a branch of Navy)... then there's Marines who do all of those ... they're land warriors, Sky warriors, and water warriors!! Oorah!!!
NEVER CALL MARINE A SOLDIER!!! cuz marines DO NOT like the army branch ... not the people .. just the branch.
A MARINE IS A MARINE

marines are better trained and lead the charge.. fight first and get worse equipment but make the best of it...training is way harder for the marines... come from water and the marines kick more a** when they are even less equiped.(older guns and stuff) i even read that the marine helicopters still hav bullet holes in them from vietnam.... marines = better. but you hav to respect both

You mean U.S. Marine Corps and the Army?
Because they're both soldiers.
Marines tend to use the same equipment, although a little more outdated where as they get the hand-me-downs from the other branches.
Marines and Army are two separate entities.
