It says in the scriptures that we are the son's of God and a Royal Priesthood - not a worm! You don't have to keep an eye on what sins you commit to confess them God knows exactly what you are doing. Just live your life the best way you can and don't concentrate on the negatives.

Obviously you can, because there are a lot of prideful Christians out there.

I am a Christian and I do not see myself as a worm, I do not analyze my actions as "good" or "evil" in a framework of "sin." I also have extremely high self-esteem (to a fault, I'm sure) so I'd say that I have no problem maintaining it at all.

I have to say I've never met anyone claiming to be a Christian who sees themselves as a lowly worm.

I've known Jehovahs Witnesses, Methodists, Protestants, Catholics and Born Again Christians - the latter were the only ones who ever told me I'd be in hell if I didn't follow their religion - which struck me as not being a very Christian thing to say.

Maybe the type of Christians you mention are the ones who inhabit Yahoo Answers...and they'd have to be the more fanatical ones.

Strangely, the only fanatics of any religion I've ever seen are on the news and in here.

Nah, most Christians aren't like that.

Most are average people with too much else to worry about, so they don't waste time playing guilt-trips. They don't worry too much about sin, because they have comfortable lives.

A few are holier-than-thou self-righteous prigs.

And there is the occasional punishment junkie.

But mostly they're not any more low-esteem than the rest of the population.

Who told you that you need to see yourself as a lowly worm?

To think soberly (Rom 12:3) does not mean only to not think more highly of yourself than you ought, but to not think more lowly than you ought either.

Phl 2:5, Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6, Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

We are designed to contain the Holy Spirit. We are not worms. God gave to us dominion over the Earth and all that is in it, and commanded us to subdue it in Gen 1:26-28.

We are, however, not to see ourselves as better than any other person. We all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God, but God gave us a job to do, and we need to see ourselves as good enough to do it.

Sure we have to keep in mind that we are sinners but this shows equality in the Church..no one is any less of a sinner than anyone else.
God wants us to value and respect ourselves, he just doesnt want us to be proud or boastful. We have the fact that God respects us and loves us so much that he gave His Son to die for us. He shows us we are worth something. Being a Christian has done nothing to my self esteem but GREATLY improve it.
God bless!

King Solomon said all is Vanity and vexation of spirit. He didn't use the word vain. Doing something in vain means it's meaningless. He used the word Vanity. Talking about Ego and False Pride.
Egotism isn't just thinking one is bigger then they are. It is also feeling sorry for onesself. And pointing the finger at others. Trying to make a big deal out of their faults, in order to keep from taking an honest look at our own faults. All these things FEED the Ego!
"All is vanity, and Vexation of spirit". We do these things to try and make ourselves feel better. But in reality. When we behave that way toward others. Who we know in our spirit have a spirit in them just like we do. It only makes us feel more like poop!

And yours is a strange religion that reduces its followers to such a degree. Everyone is not a sinner - that message is merely a way of controlling people. People are perfect just the way they are - why would God have created them any other way? The lower your self esteem the more controlable you are. If Jesus were alive today do you truly think that he would advocate such a way - Christ would not be a Christian.

Psalm 22:6 "But I am a worm, and no man;..."
Jesus quoted the first verse of this Psalm when on the cross -
"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?.."
There's a hymn, "At the Cross", which has a line, "for such a worm as I" but newer renditions change it to, "for a sinner such as I".

Your question states that sins are negative and they are. Is it better to remember them and ask for forgiveness thereby getting rid of them or keeping them? It seems to me that getting rid of them is a very positive step!!
