I can't believe they cost like $30-50 for a freaken candle. I bought a plain white one for $3.99. How I can dress it up? I wanted to glue crystals to it but I didn't know how well that would work. What type of glue should I use on a candle? Or do you have other suggestions or pictures would be great!
Thanks

I bought some frosted (whitish) vellum paper from Michael's and printed our monogram on the paper. I cut it out into about a 2" strip and then wrapped it around the candle and attached it on the back with corsage pins (pearl). Then I bought a little bolt of ribbon about 1/2" wide and cut two ribbons. I wrapped one ribbon around the top and the other around the bottom of the vellum so it looked like the mongram was printed onto the candle. Looked great!

this probably sounds wierd....

I took a little of the ribbon that all the bows were made of and wrapped a band around the bottom and top of the candle and fastened it to the back of the candle with staples (think how teachers put paper up on bulliten boards) That may or may not work, but where my unity candle was in the church, noone could see the back, and I only did the staples in the back and so basically noone ever knew. It was so much less trouble! And I'm so with you....their was no way I was payin that much for a candle!

Get some plain flat-head sewing pins with no bulbs onthe ends, then get tiny beads and pearls and sequins. You can put the sequins and beads on the pins and stick them in the wax, or you can get some smallish flowers and separate the layers and pin them to the candle. Or just get larger ones and arrange them around the base of the candle so it almost reaches the middle of the candle. Pin ribbon around the bottom or along the side. Or get some craft pain in a tube like fabric paint and draw your initials or a design on the side.

My mom and I decorated mine. We glued a piece of thick ribbon around the bottom (any glue will work - try Tacky Glue) and then got little crystals from a craft store that already had sticky stuff on the backs of them and stuck them all over the candle. It looked great and was really cheap.

I bought a $10 pillar candle from Target that was white with a criss-cross design etched in it and little silver pearls on it. Go to a craft store and see what they have in push pins with pearls or maybe rhinestone things on the end, or maybe a ribbon in your color that you can wrap around the candle. I agree that "unity" candles are way to expensive! and usually very ugly.

Don't use glue. Buy push pins at a craft or sewing store with pearls on the end. Then you can place them where you want and change it if you make a mistake.
