To me what makes a great mother is: someone who's CONFIDENT to be able to lay aside her wants and needs and want what only what's best for her kids. LOOKING FOR THE BEST INTEREST in how she protrays herself to her kids and how she desides to raise them. Her VALUES, BELIEFES,MORELS that she should choose to install in each of them. WILLING she share her FAITH or allow them to to have faith in God if they should so choose if you don't yourself. SUPPORT them in there daily lives, weither there fast learners or not, DON'T JUDGE them if one isn't as perfect as the other ( remember you created them ). LOVE them UNCONDITIONALLY through good time and Bad times. NEVER deiny them things inlife that you may or may not be able to afford only encourage them to get a good work habbit and to learn to save and streach a dollar now and then. PROTECT them from things that are harmful and GUIDE them into a better path that will not only BOOST there Confidence but RAISE there SELFWORTH. NEVER Give up on them also ENCOURAGE them to be the best they can.
to me this is just the surface. but to have these things installed in your life they too will modle after you.
TRUST, LOYALITY, HONESTY , LOVE BEYOUND MEASURE, PURPOSE IN LIFE. COMPASSION, OPEN MIND HEART AND WILLINGNESS TO GET TO BE INVOLVED IN YOUR KIDS LIVES WITH OUT INTERFERING.
HOPE THIS HELPED.

I'm not a mom yet, but I have an amazing mother, and an amazing grandmother. So I can tell you about their qualities, and hopefully that helps.

The first thing I think of about my mother and grandmother, (aside from unending love) is patience. They aren't easily provoked or irritable, and they both would have taken time out to listen to you. Which brings me to the second quality, which is just being able to listen. You don't even have to offer advice, just listen. Also, talk back. Let them know how you feel. Talk TO them, not AT them. Speak to them early on to cultivate this open relationship, and maintain it.

Caring about your child manifests itself. Don't second guess yourself, and give yourself a break if you slip up.

Good luck!

i think that a great mother admits she is human. she listens, shows she cares. she sets a good example. and when she makes a mistake, owns up to it.

i suppose there is a lot more to a good mother, but just being the best person and role model she can be, is a good mother.

take care.

Make sure your child knows that you love them unconditionally. You won't always get along, but make sure that they KNOW that you love them.
Also, if your child comes to you with a question, answer them. Don't brush them off. Explain whatever it is to them on their level. Building up that sense of trust with them will go a LONG way later on. If your child feels that they can talk to you, they will be much more likely to talk with you about serious problems as they get older, rather than turning to friends who may mislead them.

One that only breeds with one man

One that knows how to use birth control

One that has 4 years of college (in education/childhood development/nursing)

One that does not have a full time job until all the kids are in high school

One that knows how to pick a decent man to breed with
