It may just be that the ice is old. However, wash out the ice trays, replace your baking soda box, and perhaps clean your freezer AND refrigerator. The smell may be permeating from the refrigerator.

A lot of things can cause odors. You might have a slooow...refrigerant leak in the evaporator coil in the freezer portion causing a chemical smell. Another possible cause of odor could be from the evaporator fan motor up in the freezer compartment. Could be a bearing problem or electrically a bad motor winding causing overheating thus an odor.

If you fill the trays, try using purified drinking water from the store[really cheap by the gallon] or get a tap filter. If you have an icemaker installed in the fridge, the filter may have conked out. I'd also get new trays as this odor may be really hard to get out of the trays once it's developed.

I would wash the trays out thoroughly and put some baking soda in the freezer to avoid future odors.
