I anxiously want to go back to nursing school. I have a one year old son who deserves nothing but the best. And the only way he can get that is if I have an education.

First, a pell grant is a grant given to someone to further their education. To see if you qualify, you will need to fill out a FAFSA application, which can be done on-line. Below is a link. You also might want to talk to the financial aid department at the school you go to, nursing has other grants and scholarships available. There are also Perkins loans you could take out, they will be forgiven, or paid for you, as long as you work in the nursing field.

The Federal Pell Grant Program provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduate and certain postbaccalaureate students to promote access to postsecondary education. Students may use their grants at any one of approximately 5,400 participating postsecondary institutions. Grant amounts are dependent on: the student’s expected family contribution (EFC) (see below); the cost of attendance (as determined by the institution); the student’s enrollment status (full time or part time); and whether the student attends for a full academic year or less. Students may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time. Financial need is determined by the Department of Education using a standard formula, established by Congress, to evaluate the financial information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and to determine the family EFC.

Call the school you want to apply to and let them know you would like to be on the list for this grant.

Pell is a federal funded program. In order for a student to be awarded this gratn, they must show that they have a need. To determine eligiblity, you will have to complete the fafsa. www.fafsa.ed.gov. Once you have submitted your financial information to the Dept of Ed, they will provide you with an EFC. This EFC will determine if you are eligible for the pell grant or not. Good Luck!

A Pell Grant is usually a full-ride scholarship, given out on a basis of need. You don't have to be currrent or former military. Both of my parents and my girlfriend got them. You can apply at fafsa.edu or it might be fafsa.gov
