Actually, BMI is not very accurate, a very fit muscular person can come up as morbidly obese on a BMI test, as it is calculated on weight and height. A body fat percentage test gives a far more accurate picture, this can be calculated from certain measurements, but the best ones are done lying down with an electrode attached to certain points of the body, and an electrical impulse measures the percentage of fat in your body.

The BMI is not accurate, it just takes into account weight vs height. It is very primative as it doesnt take into account Bone density let alone muscle mass.

That is the reason most Athletes who are bigger than the "average" guy have high BMI.

Best measurement of obesity is a mirror.

I think it's more of a guideline that a truly accurate reading of obesity- a starting point if you will. And for anyone even remotely muscular, it's meaningless, so you are correct in that regard.
