Depends on the beliefs of Atheist !!!
Atheism only means not believing in God or fate designed by a super power.
Atheists may believe anything other than God. I know an atheist who believes in ghosts. I know another one who believes reincarnation.
You do not have to accept God to believe or show interest to such mysteries.
As a skeptic Atheist, I do not believe anything at all. When you die you die. There are no ghosts.

The only belief that all Atheists have in common is that we do not believe in God. Our views of the afterlife vary from person to person.

I would refer to myself as a spiritual atheist. I do not think that NOTHING happens when you die, but I have no way of knowing what actually does happen. It is impossible to know. I try to focus more on life than death because we will only know the truth when that times comes. To answer your question, I think SOMETHING happens, I just don't know what exactly.

well I can't speak for other atheists but I don't - unless your mind plays tricks on you or yu have a memory

when you die nothing happens at all

I dont see why this would be a problem. You accept it happens for all the other animals on the planet.

I think there is no definitive proof for what happens. It may differ between individuals. I believe that the chemicals being released in your brain and the shutting down of your body may trigger hallucinations that could include a sense of light or tunnel or the images of loved ones or whatever you are predisposed to see. Who knows?

I am not an atheist but I dated one and he was sure there are ghosts. I think it is a very individualized answer depending on the experiences of those atheists.

No, most atheists believe that people just cease to exist, that there is no possible sensation of any kind after death. On the other hand, this is assuming that it is even possible to die, which it may not be:

I can't answer for all atheists, being an agnostic, but I believe that when the electro-chemical processes of the brain cease activity all perception stops. Yes, "when you die, you die."

I think Atheists believe that spiritual belief is, as you say, a "ghost story" or "fairy tale".

From my understanding of Atheism, they believe that life is a lucky accident, and we better enjoy it while we're here, because there's nothing else after death.

I, for one, find this to be a difficult way to live.

I can't speak for any other atheist but as I don't believe in soul or spirit death would be the end of my personality as the electrochemical processes keeping my brain ticking stop. My body will decompose, and there is no "essential part" of me that somehow magically survives death.

Generally we don't believe in the supernatural. There isn't any credible evidence to suggest that we live on in some way after the death of our bodies; therefore, we have to assume that death is essentially final, meaning the end of that person's existence.
