The bra and slip was bought there when I tried the dress on so it goes with the dress.

When I tried the dress on it was not my size they didn't have my size or the color I wanted so they ordered it, so I don't know if it fits or how well it fits that why I need to try it on.

Yes, bring all your stuff, shoes, bra, and slip so you can get a good fitting. They will make alterations if needed.

I got my dress at David's and when I went to pick it up I took all my stuff, bra (my dress did not have one built in, a few of their dress do, especially from the Oleg Cassini line), shoes, slip and everything and tried it on before I left the store. I also inspected the dress to be sure it was okay. Then I took it home with me because I was having it altered at another David's location. But you can make your alterations appointment before you leave if you like, they may even hold onto the dress until then if you like.

Even if you think the dress fits perfectly I would make the intial alterations appointment. The seamstress on my dress noticed things I didn't, like pulling the bust in a bit so when I bent over it stayed in place. They also put the bustle in your dress, if you have a train.

And just to add another opinion, I had absolutely no problems with my alterations from David's, my dress turned out beautifully nor did I feel I was overcharged.

Yes, if your dress doesn't fit in the waist or needs to be taken up, etc. and you've made an appointment to have it altered, take your bra, crinoline (slip) and shoes so they can have an exact measurement for your alterations.

Here's the upside of having David's do your alterations: They know the gowns and are familiar with how each gown should be altered, which train has which bustle, etc. The down side: They're very, very expensive. It would have cost me over $400 for alterations with Davids and my gown only cost $399!

If you have a good seamtress in your area and is familar with altering wedding gowns, I would take the gown in and see if they can quote you a price before taking it into David's. It's your money and I know first hand since I just got married in May that you need to save every penny you have! :) Good luck!

Absolutely, take everything you plan on wearing with your dress, including bra and shoes, make sure you try on the dress at the store to make sure everything is perfect. If it needs any alterations get them to do it they are the pros. This is your wedding dress so make sure you are happy with it before you step out of the shop with your dress. All bridal shops understand the importance of your dress and are there to help you with anything you need dont be afraid to ask. Hope this helps.

I would take a bra (although you may have to buy a special bra depending on the cut of your dress.) I would also take the shoes you are planning to wear if you have them. In addition, i would wear a tight fitting t shirt and panties that cover your bottom (not a thong) in case someone has to come in to help you in/out of your dress. As for taking it home with you if no alterations are needed, yes you can. You might, however, get them to hold it if your wedding is a while off so it doesn't get wrinkled in our closet.
Congrats on your big day!

Well.... if you have not had an alteration appt. already they should make you one as soon as your dress comes in... in that case you would need to bring your slip, bra and shoes for a fitting...

Call them to see what step you are supposed to take next...

And a piece of advice... BEWARE of David's Bridal, I got my wedding dress there and when it came back from alterations it had stains on it, and then after they cleaned it it was almost late for my wedding!! But I live in Ohio so it may not be the case where you are. Just be careful! =)

Good luck and congrats on your upcoming wedding!! =)

You should take everything that you have and are planning to wear that day minus the jewelry. That is the only way they can tell if you need alterations. Also, plan to take it home if it doesn't need alterations. I don't remember but I don't think that they will hold it for you until your wedding day. You can ask though. Good Luck!

I can't BELIEVE all the BAD advice you are getting.

You go pick it up and take it home and try it on there. UNLESS you already also have an appointment for a fitting.

Did it fit when you tried on the sample in the store? It should fit the same, so you should already know if it needs alterations.

You don't HAVE to take it there for alterations. You can take it anywhere. When you go for ALTERATIONS, THAT is when you take all of your undergarments and accessories - NOT when you are simply picking up the dress.

But don't wait too long to get alterations. They take a while.

Oh but you will want to inspect it before you take it home.

You're correct. Take everything you're planning on wearing on your wedding day - slip, bra, shoes, hosiery, etc. with you to try your dress on. You'll also need to make sure you bring them all to any fittings you have.

Wear whatever lingerie and length heels you expect to wear on the day of your wedding. They need to tailor the dress around that lingerie and heel length.

If they don't offer tailoring, then you need to set up an appointment with a seamstress. I've heard that they usually don't like to work with David's Bridal dresses because the stitching is uneven and not continuous. Just a head's up.
