Should I turn my uncle in for molesting me when I was about the age of 7 or 8? The sexual abuse went on for over 2 years. Will he be put behind bars if I told the police and stuff? I'm now 22 years of age. I'm just wondering.

hi hon... i'm so sorry that you've been through this sort of thing.

yes, what happened to you was a criminal act on your uncle's part. you really need to do something about it... or get some good help.

i developed post traumatic stress disorder as the result of sexual abuse during my childhood, because i didn't get help years ago. therapy helped me to learn to cope, realize it wasn't my fault and that my abuser is a very ill person.

perhaps the two websites i've listed below will be of some help?

take care of YOU... you deserve it... hugs hugs

♥ Yes it is a crime... unfortunately they have statues of limitations... usually 13 years... if it happened when you were 7-8 and you are 22 now the statue of limitations has ran out. The laws in your state may be different though so do a quick law search for your state. My uncle (my moms twin brother) molested me for about 2 years... when I was 11-13... I'm 19 now. I havent found the courage to tell anyone yet. He's in and out of jail all of the time anyway, but I at least want to tell my mom. One day I will.

I wish you the very best of luck. If you need to talk email me.!!! Good Luck!

The answer to all your questions is: yes.
Please find and read a copy of the book "Memory and Abuse" by Charles Whitfield before you do anything else. Not only will it help you cope with the situation, it will allow you to sound competent when the police start asking all the personal questions.
Good Luck.

You should turn your uncle in for molesting you. And yes, he will serve time in jail if he is found guilty. You have to think about getting closure for yourself, but you also need to think about the other children that he has done this to or is currently doing this to. You have to have the courage to make him pay for his crime. You can save other children the heartache of having their childhood stripped away.

It is a crime but I would rather you let your parents know what happened to you before you can even think of starting any legal process. Probably your parents will talk to him and have the matter resolved at family level.

For you, now that you have thought about it, it would mean that the matter has been bothering you and my advise is for you to see a professional counselor at the earliest opportunity.

Wish you all the best.

It was a crime. The problem will be that there may be a statute of limitation on how long after the crime occurs to when it can be prosecuted. You would need to ask your District or County Attorney about that.

It is a crime, check with local authorities for the statue of limitations...maybe be too late to prosecute and he might only get therapy sentence in your case. But mention this, since pedophiles don't stop, the just find new victims.

Yes it is an offense and the person can be put in prison. But in your case it happened a long time back and it is difficult to prove also. I do not have any idea. Check with a lawyer.

Torture became into incorrect then besides. What you're lacking is the assumption. the assumption is to work out IF the regulations have been stretched, or if there became into sufficient wiggle room that the torture became into in a roundabout way criminal. remember the legal experts for the Bush administration defined the way it became into criminal, this is not an attack on former President Bush so a techniques, yet on the legal experts that wrote the memos asserting torture became into criminal.
