Always a bridesmaid, never a bride! Lol!
The first wedding was a casual outdoor garden wedding. I wore a knee-length maroon sun dress.
Next was a semi-formal wedding (in a church) and I wore a periwinkle a-line full length gown with 1" wide straps, a cuff at the top, and a matching wrap.
After that (formal wedding, indoors) was a medium pink/mauve full length dress. It had spaghetti straps, slight rutching at the bodice, and was satin with a sheer overlay.
The last one (again formal, indoors) was a lavender, full length, 2-piece strapless number with beaded edges on the top and worn with elbow length matching gloves.
For my wedding I am having my moh in a champagne colored strapless, floor length gown that has a very slight train, with a taupe sash that has long tails in the back. My bridesmaids will be in the same dress, but in opposite colors (taupe gowns with champagne sashes). It will also be a formal, indoor wedding.
Hope this helps! Are you getting ideas for your own wedding? Try going to www.BillLevkoff.com, or www.Dessy.com, or even just google bridesmaid dresses. You'll find tons of ideas!

I've been a bridesmaid three times. The first time, the dress was dusty rose. The second was a lovely soft blue. The third was forest green.
Oh, and my bridesmaids wore blouses and skirts in the same shade of white I was wearing. I let each trim their outfit in whatever way they pleased. One used pink beading, the second a deep fall of white lace, the third narrow piping and ribbons in a blue-based plaid, the fourth used a battenburg lace collar with little blue silk roses, and the fifth left it entirely plain. Then each wore a tartan arisaid (plaid sash)and their own accessories (shoes, jewelry, etc.). They looked coordinated without looking like they were stamped out with a cookie cutter. Oh, and their own shoes. I just told them to wear whatever flats they owned since it was out in the woods and heels would be a problem.

Yes, many times. Here are the memorable ones:
In two weddings, I wore black dresses from David's Bridal, from the separates collection. It really bugged me that I couldn't re-wear the separates dresses. Each bride wanted us in a specific dress from the separates collection, which to me defeats the whole purpose of the mix-and-match separates.
I've also worn a wine colored dress with spaghetti straps. It wasn't the best dress in the world, but none of the bridesmaids hated it. The bride really wanted everyone to love the dress, but she had to settle for not hating it.
I wore a black strapless dress with pink embroidery. I told the bride again and again that I'm just not built for strapless, but she wouldn't listen. The dress had to be so tight that I couldn't sit down comfortably, and she got all frustrated that I kept fidgeting during dinner. This dress also had a small train, which is a horrible idea. People kept stepping on it and tugging the dresses down.
For one wedding, I wore a separates dress in which each gal chose her own shirt. We wore the same skirt and the same color. We all loved it, and the bride didn't have a headache trying to pick one dress for everyone. So, this is also what I did for my wedding. Women look beautiful when they feel beautiful, so it was more important to me that my bridesmaids wear what makes them feel beautiful, and not that they all matched 100%.

I was a flower girl when I was little and I was in this horrible poofy peach thing. I thought it was the most beautiful princess dress at the time though. Haha. Then as far as bridesmaid dresses, I've worn sage green, white top with sash and skirt in Pool (from David's Bridal, it's kind of a turquoise), and periwinkle.

Only once, and it was Maid of Honor. The dresses were going to be blush and bashful, meaning delicate pink, and deeper delicate pink. 4 girls total, 2 and 2 in the colors. The dresses we wound up with were pink lemonade and electric razzberry! But it was better because those colors show up better and didn't wash us out. It was 1990 and the dresses were full of lace, puffy sleeves, satin and butt bows.
I loved the day. My friend was a great considerate bride and the reception was in an upstairs party room of a firehall, and the groom and his mom did all the great food. Most brides today would rather be shot than have this kind of wedding but it was just terrific.

It was a frosted lilac, very pretty but expensive. It ended up costing me $220 for this dress. I was not a happy camper. Mind you, I was still in High School, so luckily i got to wear it to prom too. Being a bridesmaid is totally over-rated.

I was a bridesmaid in November for my best friend's wedding. She definitely didn't do "traditional." Her dress was white, with black lace flowers all down it. (If you want to see it, here: http://davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=2288&prodgroup=10). All the bridesmaids wore different dresses, but they were all black. My dress was strapless, but it had a beaded, Indian-inspired choker that connected to the dress and went around my neck, and a keyhole loop in the cleavage area. It was really pretty. :-)
Are you getting married? If so, best of luck!
