For a great deal on a purebred cat, consider adopting from a local purebred cat rescue group. Check the Internet for local persian rescue groups and you'll be amazed at the number of purebred animals available for much lower fees. For example, prices in our area run $50-$150 on cats and kittens that have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV, received appropriate vaccinations including rabies, been checked for ear mites and worms/parasites--and adoption fees include spay or neuter. Plus, rescue groups offer fantastic support and resources for nutrition, training, behavior questions, etc. Rescues will also give you a realistic idea of annual costs associated with responsible pet ownership. (Maybe suggest low cost grooming options for your persian.)

Beware of "free" kittens or cats, especially ones that have no history of health care. Animals that have not been well cared for can have diseases or other expensive and heartbreaking medical conditions, and your "free" cat can end up VERY expensive, financially and emotionally.

Definitely not. Especially since persians are an expensive breed. When you buy it it should come with a health guarantee. I adopted my eight week old kitten today from the PetSmart adoption center. She has had all her first shots and has been tested for feline aids and leukemia. By three months she should have definitely started getting her kitten shots.

Most people will already have the shots for it before you buy it. Here, they run about $100 with shots and wormed. However, there are also free ones in the newspaper from time to time.
