I predict that we will see new legislation in the coming years. There may be several bills that will fail before they come up with something that works. Also, I think you will see new technologies used to screen for illegal immigrants, as well as to keep them from crossing the border. There may be very large fences built in the coming years, but then there will also be virtual and electronic walls between the USA and Mexico. It will be monitored through means that are not available to us right now. But future innovations will make the fence impossible to get by without being detected.

At this moment there are legistlators that are trying to pass laws that would require police officers to inquire about suspects (and perhaps other citizen's) immigration status. They want to make other professionals, such as medical service providers, do the same thing.

Some of these things are a bit scarry, and there will certainly be no end to the contraversy.

What do you think?

What I don't understand is why they are not moving forward with the security or full scale enforcement of the laws on the books. It's as if since they we caught them in a lie, they aren't going to do anything. Well either they will do something or the BRAND NEW Congress will do it. They have been given their marching order and I really don't think they should test the American peoples resolve on this issue.

The recent problems have been due to the fact that Congress looks at legal status instead of security & enforcement. They CLAIM their bills include the security but they have a poor track record for providing the security.

Basically, we don't beleive that they will do it. Proof is in the fact that the fence is not built and what about the security measures from 1986? They have had 21 years to do things!

Unless there is a major change in Congress, I think they will continue with their same tactics of legal status & promise security. We MUST do our part to prevent this!

First of all, we must vote for people that will listen to us. All the pro-amnesty twits must go! And, just like we let the Washington weasels know we were mad, we need to continue to let them know they are not doing their job.

Congress members our our employees. We hire them to do a job for America, not so they can just do whatever they feel like!

Until we get a Gov that has the Bal=s to make a stand for the good of the USA & citizens, to enforce our laws, close the borders, build the fence. We the people will have to call our Gov every day till they move on what we want. The Few cities & State that are moving on there own to enforce our laws are #1. They have showen our Gov an ACLU & all the for illegal groups they will not fold we will enforce our laws. The law suits will continual but when all the States & cities stand together we will over power them in numbers. What ever it takes to ensure our way of life, our jobs, our safety. God Bless the USA & the great citizens that made a stand.Keep calling make a difference.

I also think you will see new legislation and new technologies BUT if we do not get our legislators on board its an uphill battle against greed.

A watchdog group of lawyers has filed suit against the Social Security Administration for the names of the top 100 offenders of the "mismatch SS numbers" under the Freedom of Information Act, if this succeeds you will see a more effective way to combat the problem. The only way to stop illegal immigration is to stop employers that hire them and exploit the system.

So far the SSA is stating privacy issues even though the group only wants the name of the company and not the individual employee, but this organization continues to fight for the information, we shall see what happens.

I agree with most of what you've written but would add that we have a need for a national ID system that is fool proof.

Also, the laws concerning the hiring of illegals need to be enforced and huge penalties must be levied at the firms that break those laws.

I think if the Arizona legislation passes and is effective, you'll see more states doing the same. It's best for the country to leave the decision up to the states (opinion).

the politicians probably aren't going to accomplish anything until after the American people collectively decide what they want immigration policy to be.

Which hasn't happened yet.

Maybe it is in the process of happening. Stay tuned for further news bulletins.

I think Bush will demand a world wide ban on the sale of ladders. He'll also want to ban books, non-believers, and deodorant.

Sounds great! Also, we have to punish businesses and employers who hire illegals. Our elected officials need to enforce the laws!
