I became a Christian during a Grade 10 math exam where I had to prove some trigonometric identities. It was just too hard. Right then and three I decided to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and everything became so simple.
I wrote "God did it" to answer every question and walked out of the classroom, knowing I had aced a math exam for the first time in my life.

Actually it is much harder to believe in God, if you have a logical mind.
Justifying the existence of God, in this world, especially after really reading the bible is very difficult.
Trying to understand why God would create Lucifer, with a knowledge of the future is a terrible exercise if you believe he exists.
Being an Atheist is much easier, and well worth the ridicule. It makes life very important and gives one a sense of purpose, when thought through.
Believing in a God that created the devil and hell and is populating it with humans, while calling him loving and arguing with other religious people over doctrine is a much harder way to go. Especially with that little voice nagging at you, telling you that too much of what you believe doesn't really make sense and is contradicted by science.
Tough way to live.

Of course it's so much easier to just believe, Ignorance is bliss, Atheists can have hope and faith in things without believing in a "God"

Believing you'll go to a great, wonderful place must be easier for them than knowing that with death comes...well...death. I think some people will always need religion/god due to this fear.
I think it is easier for some people to be told what to believe than to actually figure things out on their own.
It is easier for a person to say "I don't want to think about this problem, so I'll just let god worry about it," than to work on your problem and get through it.

Believing in God does give comfort, hope, and faith...but people can find those in other sources, too.
I don't see religion as just as easy cop-out. I'm constantly challenging and analyzing my beliefs.

Yes, it is, but that is not the reason to believe. The reason to believe is way deeper and significant, it's not all about "what's easier". But to stick with the question, my answer is yes.

Maybe it is easier. When you don't know the answer..."goddidit" or "god's plans are higher than our own. He has his reasons for allowing millions of children to starve". But that doesn't make it true.

Yes, it is.
However, atheists have faith as well....faith that their theories are true, as they have never proven that there is no God.
They have never proven that Jesus didn't rise from the dead.
They have no hope that they will ever see their dead loved ones again. It's sad.
