Absolutely you can bring your own food on board, but practice good common sense. I had an insufferable flight from San Francisco to Chicago when a fellow passenger decided that shrimp scampi was appropriate for his in-flight meal. Oh, it was bad - fish and garlic throughout the cabin almost the entire trip!
I like to bring light snacks for long trips, rather than one meal. It just seems to work better that way, especially on long cross-country or international flights. Good luck & travel well!

Absolutely. Now that the airlines are not offering full meal service anymore, they'll let you take just about any pre-packaged food you want (but the rule about liquids still applies for water, juice, soft drinks, etc., so get your drinks on the plane). Heck, you can even buy food at the airport from a restaurant or concessionaire and take it on the plane.

Yes! In fact I encourage you to bring them. Planes no longer have very good food service at all and airport food is expensive and you don't always have a lot of choices.

Yes. It's the liquids TSA is concerned with. But solid food is fine. I travel with both and never had any problems.

Carry on items that are allowed have changed by all carriers. You would need to check your airlines website for items they allow.
