Pray that the Holy Spirit convict the Pope in his spiritman. That the Pope can bring to light the false concepts & false doctrines & the spirit of Jezebel, & expose these for what they are & that the Holy Spirit can cleanse the Catholic Church.

Everyday Catholic,
Pope wrote...I believe in the One Church and this Church subsists in the Catholic Church.
So? Does that include all the other non Catholic Churches?
The Church is everyone who is born of God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, His atonement & resurrection. And born again Christians are in every Church who are founded on the Rock, Jesus Christ.

Jonathan, A brother known as sinning a sin unto death? Well brother died because He tried to abide in a sin. It is impossible for those born of God to abide in sin (make it a comfortable habit) because of the Holy Seed within. So? If he dies early because of disobedience, why should we pray for this brother? There is no reason to. This isn't dieing spiritually after one is born of the Spirit. People die/blind spiritually when purposely rebel against God (Adams sin) at the age of accountability. Jesus said that to see the Kingdom of God, you must be born again...

Go back in history.

The first Christians are preaching the Gospel. Over the years, the Catholic Church is formed. It is the one true Church...still close enough to Christ to be on fire and evangelizing. As the Church grows it continues to strengthen and reaffirm it's belief in Christ and that it (as the Church) is the one true Church direct from Christ. All Christians at this time belong to this Church.

For 1500 years, there is no other Christian church but the Catholic Church. It is...the One True Church. Then enters Martin Luther, he splits and many follow.

Why would the Catholic Church now change it's doctrine because of Martin Luther. It has been and is the one true church for 1500 years...now because of a man, seen as a heretic, they are to change the doctrine of the Church?

If you look at religious history...a straight line from Jesus Christ, Protestantism is a branch off that line. The straight line continues and there is this big "Y" in the road in which Martin Luther took a good many of the faithful with him. But Martin Luther taking a different direction, in no way affects the teachings of the Catholic Church. They have remained as they always were from the time of inception.

The Pope did not make this statement up...he only reaffirmed it. Additionally, he is not saying that protestants are not saved or that they are not true Christians. Only that they are seen as fallen away from the true Church. In following Martin Luther, you have gotten off the road so to speak. We pray that you will return.

I was a protestant for 30 years and have been Catholic for 10 years. I know how statements from the Pope are taken in the protestant community...but all I can tell you is that you misunderstand. If you take the time to learn Catholicism...you'd be amazed at what you do not know.

Here is what he said:
"According to Catholic doctrine, these Communities do not enjoy apostolic succession in the sacrament of Orders, and are, therefore, deprived of a constitutive element of the Church. These ecclesial Communities which, specifically because of the absence of the sacramental priesthood, have not preserved the genuine and integral substance of the Eucharistic Mystery cannot, according to Catholic doctrine, be called "Churches" in the proper sense."

I don't recall, anywhere in the Bible, Jesus forming a "Church". In fact, he was opposed to the idea and said that "when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." (Matthew 6:6)

Churches, Catholic or Protestant, are not ordained by God. If one desires the fellowship of like-minded individuals, one can get it at a Church. But to insist that often faulty Catholic doctrine can define what a Church can or cannot consist of is hypocrisy.

A Church is nothing more than a building for public worship. He is judging other Churches based on non-biblical precedents.

Remember "judge not lest ye be judged"?

I will pray for the Pope - in my room with closed door...

I can think of far far better things to pray for than a heretic who has committed a sin unto death --- spiritual death.

Let the blind lead the blind and let the dead bury the dead!

We are alive in Christ!

If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. - 1 John 5:16 mkjv.

No, you are letting the news commentaries tell you what the document says instead of reading the actual document for yourself. The document can be found at
http://tinyurl.com/27hn45

Here is a real quote from teh document:

It is possible, according to Catholic doctrine, to affirm correctly that the Church of Christ is present and operative in the churches and ecclesial Communities not yet fully in communion with the Catholic Church, on account of the elements of sanctification and truth that are present in them.[

It follows that these separated churches and Communities, though we believe they suffer from defects, are deprived neither of significance nor importance in the mystery of salvation. In fact the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as instruments of salvation,

I pray for the Holy Father all the time, although I don't go so far as to suggest to God my own narrow concept of how things should be.

The pope is a man and is bound to make mistakes like the rest of us. I pray for him like I pray for everyone else.

Of course he does, he's Catholic. All the Protestants think their church is the only true church too. Prayer will do nothing.

The Pope is just as deluded as the rest of you! I would pray for all of you beleivers in your 'one true faiths' if I were deluded too. Luckily, I'm not, so I won't. ;)
