Basic history 101 says its the "three G's": God, gold, and ground.
Meaning: wars have historically been fought over religion, resources, and land.
Of course there's the occasional exception.
Wars are still fought for these reasons today, although we like to dress it up as other things.

Bad hint. Power, territory and resources. There have been remarkably few wars actually fought due to religion, although many have used religion as an excuse. The Crusades for an example used religion as an excuse and motivating factor, but religion was not the reason they were started or maintained.

1) Freedom to practice your religion - If ever some government ban the practice of any religion, the believers should unite and fight the government.
2) To fight invaders, for ex, people should fight US forces away from Iraq and Afganistan.
3) To fight oppressive, corruptive, self declared and military government.

Hello,
Some have been religious wars between the the Reformation and Age of Reason as well as the crusades but the vast majority have been over power, riches and territory.

Land (ie WW2)
Resources (ie Iraq war, Crusades, War of 1812)
Ambition (ie Spanish-American war)
Religion, whilst often a factor, is almost always subservient to one of these three.
