Speed limits were sensable back in the 50's when cars took 3 miles to grind to a halt. But now a days, they are deliberately low to catch all the 'criminal' speeders and top up police and government coffers without officially raising taxes yet again. Car brakes are so much more responsive now, I know because I had a 1955 car. I think a 20 mph limit outside all schools in the morning and afternoon would be a good thing, but I think the way to go is faster. So many perfectly safe 60 mph limit roads now have a 40 mph limit. Why? The result is more congestion. As for these pointless sets of traffic lights everywhere (mostly red), well they are something else. MAKE J WALKING A CRIME. IT WOULD SAVE MANY LIVES. MAKE THE ROADS FASTER, IT WILL BE GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY. BRING BACK COMMON SENSE.

Burglary has just as much potential as driving to cause harm. People drive while talking on the cell phone or drink and drive because they don't feel it can happen to them and by it I mean something terrible such as wrecking and harming themselves or someone else. Driving becomes such a 2nd nature act that we don't even remember getting from point A to point B most of the time. Kind of scary if you think about it.

But the word criminal is often subjective. Clearly taking peoples lives and property is a criminal act in any society . But the crime of speeding is completely subjective to place and circumstance. If literally thousands of otherwise responsible and law abiding motorists are safely and competently driving at 15 mph above the posted limit ,you may regard that as a criminal activity, while I see it as simply democracy being practiced with the right foot.
It is within the power of government to make criminals of us all. We just have to make sure that it is in fact objective and not subjective criminality

Actually speed limits are more a suggestion than a law. Lawyers have been successful working their way around any fines or charges for speeding. Drinking and driving is only a criminal act if you are poor and not famous - have no power. Using a phone while driving? Please, everyone does that! The good news is they were lousy drivers before cell phones.

That is because we have a lot of rules in this country (UK) that are superflous, unreasonable or artificial.
Speed limits are one of them, so generally they are ignored. People drive at a speed that they feel comfortable at.
If you burgle someones house, unless you are completely morally bankrupt, you know that it is wrong and why it is wrong.
But a speed limit is simply a figure that someone has plucked out of fresh air.
And for those of you who never speed:
Next time you are trundling along at 25Mph. (your speedo overreads by about 5mph btw. Verify with a GPS) have a look in front of you. Is there a big gap? I bet there is, because everyone else is going faster than you.
Now look in your mirror. Look at the bloody great train of cars all following nose-to-tail in your wake.

You burgle my house in Texas I pull a licensed hand gun and kill you on the spot. There are differences to misdemeanors and felony's. Breaking and entering is a felony. Drinking and driving Jail time low grade felony. Using a phone not illegal here while driving. Speeding a low class misdemeanor

Cause it is one of those crimes that is considered white collar. Something that is never thought of as causing great harm to society, like jaywalking. Burglary can cause death or harm just as much as an automobile.

because no one cares.
I dont mind some speed limits but other are crazy, on the motorway does it make a difference whether you go at 70 or 80? No
If people can't drive take them off the roads, slow drivers are just as annoying as fast ones.

We have a DO GOODER. Why do car manufactures make cars that can go faster that 120k/h, and why do governments allow it. Why do they sell alcohol at restaurants that you have to drive to, and why does any government allow this.
Hey man the world is a hypocrisy, just be quiet and leave people the f#&k alone.

yes, some people like to try to get away with doing the wrong thing for the thrill of it, we are all in part thrill seekers. Remember when your mom or dad told you not to do something and you did it anyway, it's kind of the same
