See last april: his statement about unbaptised children who go to heaven.

Two days before 13 april 2007 the Pope announced an official statement that was made on 20 april 2007 about the limbo (special section for children who die unbaptised). Now he makes the statement about Catholics being more complete than other christians. Is that a coincidence?

fenian1916: where do I show lack of understanding of the first question? I just mentioned it, there is no need to go deeper into it.
If you insist: Limbo was invented by the church around 1300 (I have a very slow connection at the moment and have to do by heart). It was totally unncessary and cause grief to thousands of parents who lost a child. Untill the 1970s in many european countries, unbaptised children were buried in a separate section of the catholic graveyard, to show everybody that these souls were in limbo. For the church this was just another way of terrorising people. Since it was such nonsense and nobody believed in it anymore, it was easy to abolish. It made the new pope look good. and people thought he was going to be a little bit more understanding than his predecessor. The statement he makes now is a step of at least 50 years back in time. This pope does not want reconciliation, he wants supremacy. I am neither a catholic nor a protestant.

fenian1916: I did not suggest a correlation. I sked the question.
It is not correct to say that the Church has had always the same point of view on this. During and shortly after Vatican II the church has fed the hopes and feelings of the people that something would change, that religion would come first and division last. As soon as Paul VI became pope he started a 180 turn. JP XXIII spoke left and acted right. Ratzinger is finishing the manoeuvre.
It is not clear what you mean with european nations and statistics. Both statements have been in the world press and discussed at great extent.
There is no need to apologize. Ideas must be discussed and attacked. People must be respected. There was no personal attack.
Have a good day.

I do not think the date has anything to do with his actions. Wednesday the 11th is not a day of interest (that I know about).

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

With love in Christ.

your lack of understanding regarding the first statement shows you are unable or unwilling to comprehend the truth. seek catholic sources to understand Catholicism not protestant bias. 2 days before Friday 13Th is ridiculous. had it been 3/4/5 days many would still seek a problem from something that is by no means a problem.

you expressed the significance of the date, i merely tried to show no correalation. if i worded it wrong i am sorry. what source do you get your information, you seem to be selective so to go further i will await your response, if you have one, so as not to offend you. also include the many european nations, statistics and where you got them. go ahead and ignore my comments,i was on the defensive that time and not really considering the point you were trying to make. peace.

I think people read to much into situations around famous dates, but have nothing to do with the day itself

Two days before Friday 13th....
It's bad enough that people have an irrational fear of the number thirteen, but to assign significance to something two days before is absurd.

I'm sorry anyone listens to the pope. We are supposed to pattern our lives after Jesus, our perfect example on Earth.

my question is if all of the popes are supposed to be so infallible, why do they contradict each other?
