Maltese is a Semitic language related to Arabic and Hebrew. Written from left to right in the Latin alphabet it is extremely difficult to read.
Just as a matter of interest. can you write 'Smoking damages your health' in Maltese? I remember seeing it when in Malta - it seemed to have a large amount of x's in it.

Yes, I have.
I've been to Malta twice and really did enjoy it - especially the bus rides. I read a little about the Maltese language before I went there but unfortunately I forgot the few words I knew.
BTW are there still so many TV antennas on the roofs or have they been switched for satelite dishes now?
Hope to come again to your great little island!!

I know how to speak some Maltese words because I speak Arabic and Maltese is a little like Arabic because it descended from Maghrebi Arabic.

Yes, definitely. Maltese is on my list of languages to learn. It's a bit tough to find learning material, though.
