I'm appalled at the amount of christian's, muslims and atheists who post appalling assertions on this forum without giving anything to back up their claim. Time and time again, people are asserting that the other "side" is made up predominantly of idiots. I decided to do some ACTUAL research on this assertion and actually found some suprising results.

kspark.kaist.ac.kr

Google search this; it sums up the results of my research very well.

Oh, OK Southpaw (Such a cute ickle bunny wabbit), anyway, the vast majority of surveys I've discovered say that 2/3 of scientists are atheists, and the rest are either agnostic, pantheistic or diestic with a few theists.

Oh, right, question... ummm... aren't theists dumb? LOL!!!

Just kidding, I can't think of one, I just got tired of people saying "atheists are stupid, because a survey conducted in my head said so!" Ya know?

DuckPhup, I like it, very intelligently written.

hodgiegirl2000, you're contradicting yourself, evidence and faith are polar opposites, you can't go with both of them. And many atheists believe that it IS possible to proove that God doesn't exist. Sigmund Freud was one in fact, and so was Einstein.

Yep. I also get a kick out of christians claiming that atheists are immoral because they do not have an invisible, magical sky-fairy (god) to tell them how they must behave. Christians make up about 75% of the US population and 75% of the US prison population. No big surprise there.

Atheists, on the other hand, make up about 10% of the US population... but they only make up 0.2% of the US prison population. Now, isn't THAT a surprise? That means that on a per-capita basis, atheists are FIFTY (50) times LESS LIKELY to be incarcerated than Christians. Pretty strange, huh, for a group that has no god-given guiding moral principals?

I can only think of two possibilities that might reasonably be said to account for this discrepancy:

1. Atheists are of a higher ethical and moral caliber than Christians, and thus are less prone to do the same kinds of nasty things that land so many Christians in the slammer;

OR,

2. Atheists are, overall, a lot smarter than Christians and thus, they are less likely to get caught in the course of their transgressions.

It's GOT to be one or the other... take your pick.

And the respond isn't any. Islamophobia isn't racism. Islam is an ideology, no longer something to do with ethnicity. Now IF, and that i could % to place that 'if' in 50' letters on remarkable of the Sears construction, this attack replaced into aimed against followers of Islam, shouldn't the media wait till there is information of the reality?!? i think of so too.

Hi there Locust,

this is a very touchy subject of course, but an interesting one. Wikipedia also has an interesting bit on it, I read the original "study of studies" in Mensa Magazine a while ago:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religiosity_and_intelligence

Of course, one could argue that while scientists in general may not be religious, it could also be that theists choose other professions. But one would still expect a "normal" distribution and that does not seem to be the case.

People with religious beliefs do back up their claims. It just isn't with things you agree with. That doesn't mean they are idiots. I don't think most of the people on this board are idiots...I'm impressed with how much research both sides do. But we're dealing with stuff that can't absolutely be proven, either way. We just have to go with what we feel the evidence shows, and use our faith.

Edit...Nobody has ever proven God doesn't exist...they may think they have, but they can't definitely say how life started.
True, faith goes beyond evidence. But if evidence points to something being highly probable, then we have faith that it is true, even if it can't be proven absolutely. Christians and atheists both have to do that to some extent.
Peace.

Well ain't that a hoot. Proof positive that I am thoroughly lacking in academic skills, or pedigree for that matter, having attained only a high school education. Yet by being faithful to my God, I have all the riches this world could ever offer me. I want for nothing ... other than for more of the people on this forum to understand that God is real and He wants to bless you too. Ya just gotta believe.

There are also some people who actually think about the questions, not many, but we're not all on high horses, or chairs for that matter.
