We lived w/ her for maybe 2-3 months. She has never provided for us. We paid her $200 month. I have custody of my kids and am currently living w/ my baby's father. He acts like he doesn't care. We separated for awhile over it. She tried to patronize me. She also tried to separate us. I just would like to find out how much she really got back for my 2 kids. I took care of them, and my baby's father. Not her. All she has done is caused problems since day one.

Call the IRS and asked them if anyone used there social security numbers. Tell them that you think that someone has used there ssn# without you knowing about it. Why didn't you file for them. There is a 800 number you can call for social security. If she calmed she got 800.00 for them then that proves she did it. What if this happens again? Stop it right now. Send for there social security cards again and let it come to a friend address. Tell IRS the truth about the situation. Tell them that you think someone stolen there SSN# numbers and use them to file a claim on the children. If they ask you who you think did it tell them you don;'t know. Move on from this mess. God will take care of you.

The only way she could claim your two children on her income tax is by putting the social security numbers on the 1040 Form and their names. At this point they are listed as her dependants and she gets a sizeable tax break, but not sure how much she would get back based on her income and all.

If YOU are working and YOU filed a 1040 at the end of the year AND YOU claimed your children, then the IRS is going to be checking this out and sending out a letter looking for an explanation.

There is NO WAY of finding out unless you contact the IRS directly with your concerns. Or if you look for the paperwork in her house.

How old is your bf? Does he pay child support? Do you work? Did you file a tax return? Where do the children live?

First of all, do you and your kids live with her and your boyfriend? She may have a legal right to claim them if she provided more than half their support.

You might can order a copy of her tax return for the year she claimed your kids. You can call the IRS and pretend to be her, as long as you know her SS#, and possibly some other personal info. I believe they do charge a nominal fee. But a copy of that return will get you the info you want.

Did you not file your own return and claim your children?

first u need to turn her in to the irs. they're not gonna care who claimed the kids first. but if u turn her in they will investigate her federal income tax return. usually they let who ever files their taxs with the kids on the return first have the money. another thing she might have only gotten 800 back. just because u claim u kids doesnt mean u'll get the whole amount of the earned income credit. everything else goes into factor, like income, ssi, and other things.

They can only stop you from filing if you try to file electronically. If you are certain that it is not illegal for you to try to claim them, then you should file a paper return by U.S. mail. The IRS will then make its own determination of which person was entitled to the claim. It usually favors the parent, so you will probably win.

sounds to me like if you were paying her $200 a month for three people to live with her, then she supported you more than you THINK she did. i woudl imagine she paid your utilities, and also cooked and possibly cleaned. Your boyfriend is working under the table, so he's obviously a politically upstanding individual, and you didn't work for a whole YEAR?????

I would bet there is mroe to this story than meets the eye........

There are several questions here who has custody of the children, who supports them on a regular basis more than half of the year, if she didn't do any of the above than she shouldn't have claimed the kid on her income taxes.....

You never said if you had a job. You should have filed them on your taxes. What she did is against the law. Sounds to me like she may be a money grabber. I don't understand why you didn't file them on your taxes.

Turn it in to the IRS. There is no half way ,when you are speaking of fraud. Unless you condone the behavior, you are not doing her any favors, by not getting her in trouble or turning her in.
