I'm not going to delve into the minutae of the legality or illegality of removing the watermarks, but answer your question on the process itself. A watermark can be removed off a photo, using Photoshop. However--even for an expert retoucher, it can be a long and tedious process, and the results may vary (depending on the photo and the expertise of the retoucher). In order to remove the watermark from any given photo, you would have to (ideally) have the original digital image. In the absence of the original digital file, you would have to make a high quality (flatbed) scan of the photo to be retouched. Most professional photographers/photo retouchers (who value staying in business) will decline removing another photographer's watermark--especially if there's a studio name, copyright symbol on the front, or any wording on the back similar to the following "Professional Image - Do Not Copy" and/or a copyright notice. By removing a watermark, the retoucher would be violating the original photographer's copyright, and thus subject to legal consequences. Beware, also, that if you were to remove the watermark yourself, you would be violating the photographer's copyright and subject to legal action yourself--should the photographer find out. From a Copyright Law perspective, however, the upper-hand appears to be on the photographer's side. It all depends on what was written on your contract.

You can't!
Ask the original photographer if you can have a "clean" copy.
Watermarks should not be removed anyway because they are there in order that you ask for personal use.
Most photographers will comply.

It's impossible to remove. The watermark is mixed with the the very pixils and is a part of the photo. Why not "pay" the photographer to reproduce it the way you want it?

How about this: Every time you take a picture off of a photographer's website and try to remove the watermark, you're taking food off of that person's table. You're stealing. you might as well be sticking your hand in their cash register.

You purchase one that doesn't have the watermark. Taking the watermark off is stealing.

It's there for a reason, and isn't meant to be removed.....
It takes some skilled photoshop work to get it out.
