Has anyone been to Walking Street, Thailand? What's it like? Where do you recommend I go?

many towns and cities in Thailand have a walking street, lots of vendors lining the road selling cheap items.

Yes, last year I went to Pattaya and went down the Walking Street there. It's about 3-4 blocks long and has alot of beer bars, go-go dancers and strip bars. It's really not a place for ladies. You can still go to Pattaya which is just is about 90 minutes by taxi, there are beaches, water sports, cafes and souvenir shops. See www.a2zpattaya.com for more info.

The island of Phuket, like Pattaya there beaches, shopping, restaurants, water sports, and other things.

Hi, where in Thailand are you visiting? Walking Street in Pattaya may not be your cup of tea unless you like go-go dancers.

Thailand is a big country with quite a few walking streets; moreover, many smaller towns cordon off certain areas on "market days", which then in effect become walking streets.

If you refer to the walking street in South Pattaya, it is one big "meat market" where hookers and hawkers vie for the attention of foreign tourists. It is a very interesting scene ... a freak show ... and a place to go to decrease your savings ratio and damage your liver. Pattaya is Cancun on steroids, so don't expect any Thai cultural experience. It is a place to get plastered (and laid) at night and recover in a beach chair during the day.

HI We have been going to pattaya for the last 5 years ,and like the others have said walking st is full of go-go bars , you would be better to go to soi 7 & 8 there not as sleasy .
The resturant,s in soi 7 are good = the pig & whistle do a great english breakfast ,also the globetrotter swedish resturant does great thai food = www.globetrotter-thai.50megs.com you can look at the menu and get idea of prices

The Walking Street in Pattaya is a crowded place, full of bars, night clubs offering "live" sex shows, Thai boxing shows, so called duty free shops with cheap imitations, handicraft and other myriad group of vendors, hookers, lady-boys, massage women....you name it.

Its OK for a visit but prices there are over inflated, since those doing business there know the exchange prices of the USD, EUR, JPY etc and know that "farangs" or foreigners dont mind shelling out a couple of bucks more, especially when high on booze or with a Thai female companion.

Walking street is lined with shops ,restaurants, discos and sex bars. I think it is very interesting, I go to a bar and people watch. I think most items on walking street a very expensive as compared to the other shops in town. Watch out for brand names Rolex watches, nikes, etc they are copies. Gold is a good buy 24 K for about 10,500 for a one baht piece, same price as in the US you only pay for the gold not the art work.

however theres a street called boys town that caters for girls and gay guys


dont think thats your think... not much wrong with it... but if female probably go up to chang mai and go learn to scuba dive in koh toa island and check out the rocks commin out of the sea around Krabi

amongest the many of the strip bars,you may find a rock bar where local band pay all the well know tunes,resturaunts also good for fresh sea foods too,night club i remember called tonys,but all in all i have not seen many farang girls in the bars there,do to the sights that you may see,but exspect the unexspected then you will be fine

well, depending on your interests, it would probably be more fun there for you if you were a horny guy. but, to each his own.. I would do some research on other spots as well - there are plenty of fun and interesting places here - -
