I don't support the pope's comment on that. Quite frankly that is one of the reasons I left that denomination!.!.! Their arrogance can be greater than their superstitions.
No...I believe that the only salvation we have is in the Lord Jesus of Nazareth. The Christ. He and only He can save the world. He and only He is our personal salvation. Not the Catholic denomination.

The word Christian means Follower of Christ. In order to be a Follower of Christ, you need to acknowledge him as the Head of the Church because that is what is taught in the Bible.
The Catholic Church claims that the Pope is the head of the Church. Therefore by definition, Catholics cannot be considered Christians. The correct designations for Catholics is Paptist which means Follower of the Pope.
Also, the Catholic Church claims that their religion goes all the way back to the original group of believers and that Peter was the first Pope. However, the idea of one person being Head of the entire Church didn't come into existence until four hundred years after Peter died. Therefore, he could not have been the first Pope.
In summary, Catholics are not Christians. They are using the name of Jesus as a marketing tool to promote their own religion.

NO! NO! NO WAY!
The Seventh-day Adventist Church has address the theological discrepancies within Catholicism using Catholic resources.
The Catholic church departed from fundamental bible teachings centuries ago. Sprinkling is not in the Bible.
Bowing down before graven images(Mary)
Confession of sins to a priest. (A person can pray directly to God without a middleman)
Tampering and changing God's law including the day of worship.
Exalting church Traditions above the Bible.
Doctrine of purgatory(Not biblical).
These and other issues are a clear departure from the the teachings of the Holy Bible.
Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ. We should confess our sins to Christ alone.
John 14:6.
God's true church will also honor the biblical Sabbath day as the weekly Holy Day(Saturday) in accordance with the Ten commandments recorded in Exodus 20:8-11.

One of the issues that most vexes modern culture are assertions of theological or religious particularity. We have been so socialized by the pre-suppositions of modernity to believe that all religions are essentially the same, that when evidence or assertions or theological difference appear, we lack any frame of reference to understand or appreciate what those distinctions are about, and immediately begin reacting. There is nothing specific in the Pope's comments that speaks about who individually is saved or not saved, or how this salvation is effected in terms of other Christian associations or religions, the statement is about the self-understanding of the Catholic Church and those principles that differentiate it's own self-understanding from that of other Christians. If you find yourself in disagreement with those principles articulated by the Pope, you have discovered a reason why you are not a Catholic.

When the Pope can show me a new testament suggestion that 1) his disciples elect a pope, 2) that they build a Church in which to worship, and or 3) that they use their money for golden crosses and fine buildings and fine art instead of giving it to the Poor then I might believe him.
Continuity to Christ Catholicism may have but they lost the plot big time somewhere allong the way.

The Pope did not say that catholicism is the true way to salvation.
Go to the actual document and read the following:
"It follows that these separated churches and Communities, though we believe they suffer from defects, are deprived neither of significance nor importance in the mystery of salvation. In fact the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as instruments of salvation,

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html
Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.
While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:
Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.
Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.
All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

I don't support his comments, but I think the attention they recieved was a little over the top.
EVERY denomination thinks that it has the monopoly on salvation, whether they state it in such explicit terms or not.
Surely the Popes pronouncement was not actually news to anyone!

According to the Bible Jesus said, "I am the light and the way. Only through me will you get to the Father." I don't recall anything in the Bible about having to be Catholic (one of the wealthiest institutions in the world). So much for the vow of poverty that priests take.

Once again the Pope is fueling the fires of hard line Protestants who like nothing better than to point out the similarities between the office of Pope and the anti-Christ who sits in the temple of God making himself God.
Salvation is by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ Jesus on the Cross and the sealing of the Holy Spirit of God. The Pope has it right when he says that God has only one church, he strays from the truth when he claims that God's church depends on men and it consists of an "unbroken line of apostalic succession".
Here's what the so called "first Pope" Peter wrote about God's one true church.
1 Peter 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,...
First Peter tells us that the "elect" who are scattered in various regions are the people to whom he is writing. The doctrine of election makes it clear that it is God who chooses whom He is going to save from before the foundation of the earth.
1 Peter 1:23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;
Peter notes the characteristic of those who elect. They are "born again" Christians. Jesus taught that the Spirit gives people new birth in John 3 and compared the process to the blowing of the wind. He said we can't see the wind or know where it is coming from or going to and it's the same with the Spirit.
God gives new life to whosoever He chooses not whosoever puts him or her self under the church in Rome.
1 Peter 2:5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Here Peter describes the true church. It's not the Vatican or even the Mormon tabernacle. It's the invisible spiritual body of all born again Christians. Paul writes the same thing to the church in Ephesus.
Ephesians 1:13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Ephesians 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Cathlic theologians would say "See! They are built on the foundation of the apostles. That proves the Pope is right!".
That passage has to do with the preaching of the gospel. Notice the prophets are also included. It is such errors in interpretation that have led the church in Rome into many such predicaments.
